Re: For those who are white-americans...

Thug has been thrown around so much that it's lost all its meaning.

Nowadays a thug is any young black man with a tatoo and a afro, cornrows, etc.

Ball players have always led irresponsible lives from the 30's to the 21st century.

MJ, Bird, and Magic were far from choir boys. Infidelity, suspect friends/acquaintances, drug use, wanton sex lives, illegitimate children were as prevalent among ball players in the 70s/80s as it is now.

The difference is now we talk about it, personal lives are no longer off limits.

The NBA does suffer from the lack of white players. The politically correct thing to say is that it doesn't matter. Sure it does. Yao Ming has all of china watching, and if there were a white american ballplayer of the ilk of T-Mac/AI/Kobe then the NBA would have through the roof ratings.

White americans have found there sports heroes that identify with and their names are Jimmy Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Matt Kenseth. Parents have taken their kids out of basketball and put them into soccer.

The NFL is not immune either. The day you turn on your tv and find that 20 out of 32 starting qbs are black is the day the NFL is no longer king and Nascar is.

      Larry Bird was right.

Doesn't matter to me either way.

NBA isn't what it used to be, and its not because of less white guys.

Kenyon Martin imo presents himself and often acts like a thug. Its all in how you present and handle yourself LeBron and KG each have several tattoos but they dont carry themselves or act like thugs which is why they're marketable.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I disagree. If the NBA had a better product then they would have through the roof ratings like they did in the 80's and early 90's. Let's face it, expansion and players coming out too early have led to a watered down league. Factor in inconsistent officiating, and the fact that few teams push the ball up the court, and it's just not a fun game to watch any longer. Seems like 90% of the teams walk the ball up the court, and then run a 2 man game where they dump it in and force a shot, or dump it in then pass it back out and force a 3 ball. Or they run some iso play while the rest of the team stands around and watches.

The NBA's recent decline in ratings has nothing to do with whiteness, it's been a sport dominated by blacks for some time. It's decline in popularity is due to the fact that it's almost unbearbable to watch for most people. I was a huge NBA fan for a long time, but I could count on one hand how many games I watched this year. I find myself being drawn to watching the college games more during basketball season these days.
