He is freeloading off of Pops' system. Let's take it easy.

Mavs signed JJ Barea to 4-year, $16M deal. He originally agreed to 2-year, $5.7M deal but renegotiated after DeAndre Jordan backed out.

(Bonner has been with the Spurs since 2007, their last NBA title until 2014, so this is a bit of a running joke.)

To be honest, though, Bonner is maybe the most valuable fifth or sixth big man in the league. He actually adds value to the team and is worth it for the vet minimum, for sure. Recall that Pop used some mad CIA Pop strategies to make him a key to winning the 2014 WCF against OKC when he started him and forced Ibaka out of the paint since he had to guard Bonner (OKC, after falling behind 2-0, has won two straight games since Ibaka miraculously returned from his "serious" injury).

Actually he was a top recruited player coming out of HS. I go to college in New Hampshire and have met his father multiple times at my school's basketball games. He was recruited by Coach K and Duke. So he should have been in the league, this long is a different story though.

Conspiracy theory: Wes Matthews and JJ Barea were both in DeAndre's house that night.

Cuban probably rewarding Barea, who was a key part of the championship team.

You're probably right, but it's hard to make that argument when Chandler was an even bigger key part and has yet to be rewarded by Cuban for it by getting booted out the door twice now. Even JJ got booted if I'm not mistaken?

And yet he's still in the league. Amazing how that is.

I can't even knock him for it.

He's just NOW rewarding him for something that happened 5 years ago?

Not exactly smart business there but it's Cuban sooooo....I guess it's cool.

Dont see how this is gonna end well

Michele Roberts, Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association, issued a statement today in response to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's assertion that several teams were still losing money despite salary givebacks from players after the 2011 lockout, and enhanced revenue sharing among teams. She said the union would not negotiate "the finer points" of their discussions with the league about revenues in public.

However, she included several bullet points in the statement concerning revenues:

"Under the CBA, we do not have a gross compensation system. The players 50% share is calculated net of a substantial amount of expenses and deductions.

New and renovated arenas around the league have proven to be revenue drivers, profit centers, and franchise valuation boosters. That has been the case over the past few years in Orlando, Brooklyn, and New York, to name a few. In some instances, owners receive arena revenues that are not included in BRI. Many teams also receive generous arena subsides, loans and other incentives from state and local governments as part of their arena deals.

Virtually every business metric demonstrates that our business is healthy. Gate receipts, merchandise sales and TV ratings are all at an all-time high. Franchise values have risen exponentially in recent years, and the NBA has enjoyed high single digit revenue growth since 2010-11."

It would help if Silver would stay away from the owner(s) driven rhetoric that Stern went with (which turned popular opinion against him). I find it very hard to believe that any ownership group is still losing money, unless they are ran by completely incompetent morons.

The Josh Smith-to-the-Clippers chatter is indeed true. They will be formally signing him shortly

He helps their bench a little bit, but they are still in need of a center to back up DeAndre.
