The major difference between the 2 and the 3 spot is typically what side of the floor you run on and the 3 spot probably has a little more rebounding responsibilities. The other difference is the 2 would handle the ball more but neither Ross or Derozan are combo guards. In Ross case, I would say there isn't much of a difference because Derozan will still see the better wing defender regardless of where he lines up. The only argument I can see being made for Ross is if he is the primary defender on the bigger guys at the 3 spot and that wore him down.
