Re: 2015 Offseason Thread
So I'm not 100% sure how this whole cap/salary thing works..
But just to clarify, the only reason the Cavs can afford keeping LeBron and Love is because they are allowed to go over since both players are already part of the roster.. Isn't that how it works?
So technically, assuming LeBron and Love both opt out, if Love leaves for another team and LeBron hasn't signed yet wouldn't they have enough cap room to sign another top level player? And then LeBron simply just sign his new context afterwards? Or does it not work like that..

Re: 2015 Offseason Thread
LeBron would have a "cap hold" for about his current contracts amount. It effectively means that if they were to use up the cap space that is taken up by his cap hold, they would then lose his bird rights and not be able to sign him for anything that didn't fit under the cap. Cap holds exist to deter that exact strategy.
Legitimate question.
Would trading Love and a 1st to the Lakers for the 2nd pick make sense for Cleveland?
Rumor for the past 3-4 years is that he would end up on LA anyways. Cleveland could take Towns (if he's not first) or Russell, another Ohio "hero" for this team to build with.
Kyrie, Russell, LeBron, TT, Andy/Mozgov.
Use that Haywood contract to clear space for a stretch 4 or a guy like Danny Green.

^^^ what 702 said. That's why Cleveland has so little room to maneuver despite only having 4 guaranteed contracts (assuming guys like LeBron, love, and JR opt out).

Re: 2015 Offseason Thread
Dario Saric, #12 pick in the 2014 Draft for the 76ers, will not come to the NBA for the 15-16 season because a palatable buyout could not be reached with his European team. Potentially could be in play for the 16-17 season (as was anticipated when he was drafted), but could possibly wait until the 17-18 season because he can negotiate a contract outside of the rookie scale like Mirotic did this past offseason.

Paul Pierce has reportedly opted out of his Wizards' contract.

Paul Pierce will play next season.
With that decision made, his next step is handling his his $5,543,725 player option.
Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post:
Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce has decided to play next season but is expected to bypass his $5.5 million player option, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.
This doesn’t preclude Pierce from returning to the Wizards. In fact, he can re-sign for a 20% raise from last season (to $5,543,725). Exercising his option would have meant just a 4.5% raise.
Pierce probably has the leverage to secure that bigger deal from Washington after his impressive season and playoff run. But the Wizards should be mindful of getting Otto Porter an expanded role.
More importantly, they’ll be wary of giving Pierce more than one year – with their primary goal preserving cap space for Kevin Durant in 2016.
That could open the door for the Clippers, who are interested in Pierce and have a big hole at small forward after trading Matt Barnes. They can pay just the taxpayer mid-level exception ($3,376,000 starting), but they’d probably hesitate less to offer multiple years (a second year at $3,527,920 and maybe even a third year at$3,679,840).
It’s unclear how much a longer contract appeals to Pierce, who turns 38 before the season. But the Clippers offer a starting job, a coach he knows in Doc Rivers and a spot in his native Los Angeles.Comment

Re: 2015 Offseason Thread
Sources say that the Lakers, Kings and Orlando Magic have had exploratory dialogue on a three-way Cousins trade that would land the 24-year-old in Los Angeles. All three teams hold top-six picks in Thursday's NBA draft, and Orlando has a young top-flight center of its own in Nikola Vucevic, who could theoretically fill the Cousins void.
