The expectation is that Bosh should be ready for next season but I've heard reports that he's played his last game. If that's the case and he retires then his salary should come off the books - correct me if I'm wrong. That should then be plenty of cap space to resign Whiteside/Wade and go after another top free agent with the expected salary cap hike. KD?

Anyway, the top priority is dump McRobert's contract to resign Whiteside and Wade (hopefully he'll sign something around the $15 million range). Then use the remaining to re-sign Deng (hopefully he'll agree to a discount; perhaps $8 million?). Riley also needs to sign shooters- and I mean consistent ones, not the Gerald Green streaky types.

We've already got some solid rotation guys in Winslow, Richardson and Tyler Johnson. They're still young and have plenty of room to grow; namely Winslow needs to work on his jump shot and Richardson needs to develop consistency.

RE: Bosh/Salary Cap Relief if he no longer can play...from Larry Coon's CBA FAQ:

      63. What are the rules for retired players? What if the player suffers a career-ending injury?

Any money paid to a player is included in team salary, even if the player is no longer playing or has retired.

There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is excluded from team salary. This is when a player suffers a career-ending injury or illness. The team must waive the player, and can apply for this salary exclusion following a waiting period. Only the player's team at the time the injury or illness was discovered (or reasonably should have been discovered) can apply for this salary exclusion.
The waiting period depends on the number games in which the player played in the season:1
      • If the player played 10 or more games in a season, the team can apply on the one-year anniversary of the player's last game.
      • If the player played fewer than 10 in a season, the team can apply 60 days after his last game, or the one-year anniversary of his last game in the previous season, whichever is later.
According to this, the Heat would not be able to file for salary cap relief until February 9, 2017 (February 9, 2016 was his last game played). Bosh's status (if he retires or not) ultimately has no impact on Miami's cap situation this offseason.

        re: 2016 NBA Offseason Thread

I want the Celtics to explore the trade market for their 1st round round picks. If nothing marterializes there, then use the highest pick and spend big money one year deals on lower level free agents at positions of need. None of the realistic unrestricted free agents options are appealing enough to warrant a max deal. I see no sense in committing to such a deal just because you can. Don't think they will either since that would only take away from all the flexibility they have now from a roster building standpoint.

One thing is for certain. I fully expect to get porked tomorrow night. *sigh*

Yeah, such a shame to get "porked" with a free top 5 draft pick.

Must be nice to have a "good team" problem like that, lol.

Knicks won 17 games and got the 4th pick and these dudes are complaining about a free top 5 pick coming off a playoff season? I hate Boston.

You're damn right I'm going to complain if the pick falls out of the top three.

Nope. The Nets picks are a symbol of hope for Celtics fans. Our best chance to bring a star here is to trade the picks, because those 16 Championship banners mean nothing to modern day free agents.

Yeah, if you want a starting lineup with poor perimeter offense aside from Middleton.

Defensively and rebounding, that lineup should win games on effort alone.

But the post up game of the front two leaves a lot to be desired and I have trouble relying on Howard as anything more than a good defensive big.

That team could bully a lot of squads if they dedicate themselves to playing inside.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
