This does not prove your point. If both small market and big market teams have trouble signing free agents, then you're still wrong. It's up to you to prove that the advantage teams have is because they're in a big market, and not for any other number of reasons. As a Knicks fan, I'll be interested to see this evidence. Also, how this explains Chris Paul leaving the 2nd biggest market to go to the 5th.

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
Brown played SG some last season and I assume he will see a lot of time there this year. Heck, he may even see time at PF if he adds some more muscle. Also, Boston closed most games with Crowder playing PF with Smart at SF. And by those positions I mean guarded the other teams player at those positions since Brad doesn't recognize traditional positions.
This is Brad Stevens' take on positions:
Spoiler"Obviously everyone starts with 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s when they look at a basketball team," Stevens said. "I look at ball-handlers, wings, swings and bigs. I only have four categories. The more guys that can play the more positions, the better.
But will the versatile Tatum be playing small forward or power forward for Boston? He has the ability to play both, but Celtics head coach Brad Stevens isn’t saying.
“It doesn’t matter,” Stevens told reporters shortly after Boston made their first selection on Thursday.
Fair enough. Part of what made Danny Ainge and the Celtics’ brass fall in love with Tatum was his versatility, and Stevens must be salivating at all the ways he can deploy his new player.
“We think Jayson can play a variety of positions with a variety of guys. I think that, in this kind of position-less league, those guys are really valuable,” said Stevens. “A couple of years ago, I talked about how we were thin on guys that could play a number of different positions, when you talk about, really, 2-3-4. Now we’re starting to really — we’ve got a lot of position-less players that can dribble, pass, and shoot. That’s a good thing.”
Defense is one of the few knocks on Tatum, so which position will he guard, one reporter dared to ask on Thursday night.
“Whoever,” Stevens replied.
The C’s head coach did expand on Tatum’s defense, saying that Tatum is just like any other 19-year-old coming into the NBA.
“He’s got to get better on both ends of the court and that’s for any young guy. We said this about Jaylen last year: It just takes time to be as good as you want to be,” said Stevens. “Again, his ability to score against any variety of defenders and his ability to post smaller guys but also stretch out bigger guys allows him to play with whoever else is on the floor.”
Brad Stevens must be salivating at all the ways he can use Jayson Tatum on the floor, but he isn't ready to share his plans for the third overall pick.
The bottom line is Brad doesn't care about positions, rebounding and low post defense be damned. However, if Zizic or even Theis can and basically give them a Tristan Thompson type effort, then that would be perfect for what they need.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
I'm really surprised the Jazz didn't push sooner to have a meeting with Otto Porter because to me that would feel like an ideal situation for him to be The One.
**** happens no matter the market, but I don't think this is a "big market vs. small market" debate.
And these small market teams are doing wonderful. We just had Cleveland and Golden State in the Finals again. What more does the league have to do to squash this "small market woe" crap?
But then HE decided to sign an offer sheet with the ******* Nets. The same team that's lost 120 games over the last 2 years. The Kings threw an offer sheet at him for the same amount and he brushed them aside.#RespectTheCultureComment

Let's not forget the Celtics can still add front court help in the return for whatever is traded away to clear room to sign Hayward.Comment

They were actually going to schedule a meeting with Porter.

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
I'm still here and far from a newbie. Yes the NBA is popular now but I don't think it will continue. I think the more these super teams are built the more people will be turned off. Especially if your a fan of a small market team that keeps losing players that they drafted to other teams for less money. I guess I would be ok if FA was allowed as long as it didn't result in superstars going to play with other superstars.
If you ask most people who they think will be the next good team in a few years, they will all say Minnesota, Milwaukee, or Philly. Not NY, not CHI, not LA (maaaybe the Lakers). Obviously anything can happen, but if you draft well you get a guy for at least half of his career.
Only one team wins the title per year. If you have expectations of a season being a success/failure based purely on championships, you're gonna be let down. There are a million reasons to watch other than "who's gonna win the title".
Just because there is one really good team, and a couple other pretty good teams, doesn't mean we should ignore everything else that happens over the course of the season. Maybe this is just what being a Bucks fan turns you into, but I can find plenty of ways to enjoy NBA basketball, parity or not.Comment

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
Here's a list of all the franchises (teams relocated and name changes included) that have won at least 1 championship: Lakers, Kings (Rochester Royals), Pistons, Hawks (St. Louis Hawks), Warriors, Bucks, 6ers, Knicks, Blazers, Wizards (Bullets), Thunder (Sonics), Bulls, Rockets, Spurs, Heat, Mavs, Cavs, and Celtics. That's 16 franchises claiming rights to 1 championship. And if you whittle the list down to multiple championship teams it's 4 to not do it twice are Kings, Wizards, Thunder, Mavs, Cavs, and Trail Blazers. So when about half of your league has won multiple championships and one team winning 9 STRAIGHT championships. I don't think there not being parity is a huge deal. And as Shiz said, this year we knew the Finals opponents were going to be exactly 1 year ago to the day. Yet it was one of the most watched Finals EVER. And the same 2 teams played in the Finals the past 2 seasons. People don't really care about parity.Comment

Yep this is true. I have heard Marc Gasol's name thrown out there by The Vertical as a potential trade target this morning. Don't know how in the blue hell it's feasible but it's out there.Comment

It's not as black and white as you're trying to suggest. I really don't think I should even have to explain this. It's obvious small markets are at a disadvantage no? Their location typically isn't the most attractive, most don't have owners willing to spend out the *** to keep up with the top teams, etc.
Either way I'll bite.. LAC just signed Blake back. Knicks signed Carmelo and Stoudemire. Lakers signed Dwight, bout to get PG. And the rest of his teams listed haven't been good enough to attract FA or just we're outbid. Chicago and Dallas still at least land meetings with top FA's.. something that Indy, Milwaukee, Utah, Sac, Orlando, Memphis etc can't even do.

I thought D12 and Melo were traded for? One left and the other is trying to get out.

They were traded for. D12 was a package around Nikola Vucevic that also included the 6ers. And Melo was traded for Gallinari and other parts.Comment

Y'all are right about D12. So replace him with Nash lol. And Melo was going to the Knicks regardless of a trade and reupped with them when he became a FA in '14.
