So I imagine now Ainge is either going to trade Bradley/Crowder/Smart for that player or just use 1 of the 891918211 cap exceptions and sign one.

I agree completely I would've loved Boogie on this team and I think Danny would've liked Boogie on this team. But Brad didn't want him for whatever reason. I think it was because he was a headcase but I don't remember exactly.
I feel like Ainge won't pull the trigger on a Gasol trade. But he would be great for y'all, Cleveland can't really guard bigs.

I don't even know how it's possible from a cap standpoint. As we have to cut cap space to fit Hayward.

Maybe if y'all got one of them trade exceptions, I think that's how Cleveland got Korver this year

          2. NBA has a Soft/Hard Cap.

The Hard Cap is number that no team can exceed even if they're paying luxury tax. Whereas with the Soft Cap, you can still exceed that under certain conditions but you still may have to pay luxury tax. Not 100% sure but one of CBA experts can go into further detail about how that works.

Because people were saying the Jazz should've done a better job drafting in order to retain Hayward. Who's the big player the Celtics drafted(can't count Brown or Tatum yet)? They're as good as they are right now by trading for Thomas and signing Horford/Hayward in FA. Maybe if Utah could've landed someone other than a washed Joe Johnson Hayward would've stayed and we wouldn't be having this talk.

And yeah I'm not sure on those rules either. I just remember Simon saying they gave Lance a great offer and he chose to take the Hornets' one, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking what was stopping him from offering more money other than not wanting to go into the tax?

Horford and Hayward came to Boston solely because of what Ainge built through the draft and making smart trades over the past 4 years after completing tearing it down.

              Nothing was gifted to them.

The NBA doesn't have a hard cap at all fellas. A hard cap is just that, it's a flat number that you cannot go over for any reason whatsoever. The hard cap is what the NFL and NHL have. The NBA is strictly a soft cap that has various exceptions that allows teams to spend over that set cap number in an effort to allow teams to keep their best players.

Each year you get your salary cap number that teams are allowed to spend freely to and you get your luxury tax number. Once you reach the salary cap number you can use the exceptions like Bird Rights, etc. to go over the cap number to re-sign your players and additional free agents using the Mid level, Rookie contracts, etc. In theory you could resign all your guys you have Bird Rights to it's simply up to the team if they're willing to cross the luxury tax line to do so.

The repeater tax doesn't come into play until you reach your second season of paying luxury tax. Each year you repeat brings a stiffer penalty which is what scares teams off from paying it. As an example, a team $8 million over the tax threshold will pay $1.50 for each of its first $5 million over the tax threshold, and $1.75 per dollar for the remaining $3 million. Next season's luxury tax threshold is set for $119.266 million dollars. As of now the Cavs have $143,431,865 million in salary while the Warriors have $123,941,965. I'll let y'all do the math on that tax bill.

To answer your question, the Cavs. No chance LBJ plays there if born in any state other than Ohio.

Still missing the point. The Jazz were in practically the same place as Boston. They built their team up through the draft. They nailed Hayward and Gobert and had two very good pieces to build on, enough to win 51 games last year. But people are saying they didn't do well enough to retain Hayward, well maybe had they been able to sign a key free agent that would've been enough? That's where the get out of jail free card comes in...

If Hayward doesn't join Boston, they're stuck with the same roster as last year hoping Tatum or Brown pan out no? But unlike Utah they were able to sign a big name FA and not have to depend so much on their 50,000 draft picks.

Also 3 #1 overall picks in 4 years, right before Lebron comes home.

That was CMH who brought up their Drafting earlier.

Take away Brown(which I'm not sure why we need to but you've put qualifiers on everything else when it doesn't fit your argument but you've been doing that all day)and they still have Bradley, Smart and Olynyk. Guys they drafted in the same timespan that the Jazz had Hayward and guys that played significant roles/minutes under Stevens, who's played a big role in a lot of those guys developing and becoming the players they are now.

The funny thing is you could make an argument that the Jazz had a 3 year head start on Boston since they had to start completely over once they let go of the rest of their original Big 3 and that was only 4 years ago. And at the time, everyone was saying that the Celtics were going to be "rebuilding" for a long time. Hell, they still think they're "rebuilding" even after last year.

Like other posters have mentioned that you keep ignoring, nobody told the Jazz to wait until Hayward's last year to start signing FAs to finally get them in the playoffs. You talk about "Washed Joe Johnson" who left Miami and took less money to play in Utah, yet he was one of their best players not just in the season but in the playoffs as well. Boris Diaw was another player who contributed all throughout the year, coming from San Antonio, in addition to George Hill.

But I'm done because all you're going to do is come up with nonsense like "Boston had a get out of jail free card", "Boston had wayyyy more advantages that Utah didn't have", or "Utah couldn't sign FAs until Hayward's last year because...it's not fair". I should've stopped after you mentioned that Franchise Tag nonsense.
