I would think it comes down to what LeBron wants and how open he is with conversations. If LeBron is staying, go all in this year and hopefully have a team that can compete going forward. If LeBron is leaving then they have to think about life after LeBron and plan for the future.

I'm curious what LeBron is telling them and how honest he is being about next off-season.

      Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

Knowing how Lebron has operated in the past in regards to his upcoming FA, there's maybe a handful of people who know or have a good idea as to what he's going to do and I don't think the Cavs are one of them.

Now if the Cavs are smart, they have a smart contingency PLAN(keyword)in the event that he does leave again. They didn't have that last time because they invested in so many "Win Now Vets" last time around because they thought that would keep him around and we seen how that turned out.

They can still go in as usual but they need to be prepared in case he decides to have another TV show or write another Article on why he decided to take his talents elsewhere.

I agree. Hypothetically, if LeBron leaves and the Cavs re-sign IT, which I assume they would since they will have the cap space and (like I said all along) I don't think there will be a huge market for IT because most teams already have a PG or their PG of the future. So if that's the case the lineup would look something like:

        IT
        J.R.
        Crowder
        Love
        Thompson
(With a likely Top 4 pick)

I would say that lineup just as good as the 16/17 Celtics and still a top team in the East.... although, that is making a lot of assumptions like a) IT continuing to play at a high level and b) no other teams in the East making surprise improvements (like adding LeBron).

You know B is going to happen(natural progression)without anyone adding Lebron but even then, I don't know about THAT team being a Top team in the East.

Plus we forget that they'd basically be losing their coach too.

Ty Lue gonna be looking lost as hell out there.

I'm going to be trolling hard as **** when he hit 30+ wins and that pick ends up in the 7th-15th range in the lottery.

I think something likely could be Cavs holding onto that Nets pick until off-season. If Lebron stays, they'll deal the pick(or just player taken with pick like they did Wiggins) for extra help. If he leaves, then they have a lottery pick to fall back on.

I think that Lakers pick ends up higher (lower? You know what I mean). I don't see that Lakers squad being better than the Nets in 2018.

Apologies to Vni, but I want another year of your posts.

Lightskin Lonzo ain't saving them bums. Wait til Fake D'Angelo gets a hold of him too. It's gonna be like when Deron ended Linsanity at the Garden 5 years ago.

This move by Boston is exactly why I never get mad at guys for leaving via free agency to wherever the heck they want to go.

Thomas was out there pimping Boston to free agents. He thought he was untouchable. And he got dealt.

There is no loyalty from the owners. I will never understand why fans think there should be loyalty from the players.

Meanwhile he's been telling everyone who will listen that he wants $20M, fresh off an all time season that may or may not be repeatable, and a pretty serious injury for a guy who, at his height, likely only has a few years of high level play left.

I don't disagree with you in general, but I don't think we should be picking either side. Both sides handle these business situations as they should... using all avenues available to them.

                        ---------------------------

And btw, I have no idea what you people are smoking that think the Cavs won this trade by a landslide. I'd say they got marginally better this year (mostly bc of Crowder, but small knock on D bringing in IT), with added flexibility moving forward. Meanwhile the Celtics moved pieces they could afford to lose in Crowder and the pick and got back a player that is at worse IT's equal on offense and slightly better on defense (at worse), but locked into a contract for longer and projected to definitely be the better player 2 or 3 years from now.

I think it's a great trade for both teams, and THAT is what sucks as a Wizards fan.

In 2 or 3 years the team is yours. I'm as confused as I was when this first came out. Seriously Why?

That's the beauty of august. Anything is possible and nobody's wrong. At this time last year the Knicks were a super team.

I don't think the Lakers will have an historic season. I think we will score an underwhelming 60 wins season and lose in the finals to the Celtics in 7 games. That's a decent start though.

League rules state there can only be 1 good Lightskin PG every 10 years.

Kidd had his 10, and Steph still has time left so Lonzo gotta be the garbage PG until Steph is gone and no one else comes up next
