    Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

Apparently the Cavs called the Warriors about a Kyrie for Klay deal.

Koby Altman must have finally been able to get a good night’s sleep on Tuesday. And it was a well-deserved slumber for the new Cleveland Cavaliers general manag…

lol, what would make them think the Warriors would've actually done that. But if they did...how crazy would that have been. Already 3 straight finals of Cavs-Warriors, and then suddenly we see those teams swap starting guards!

I guess GSW is cool with their PG situation.

Wonder if Cavs would have preferred Brown or Tatum to the pick.

Or if Celtics preferred giving up the pick instead of giving up one of those players.

I'm sure they talked about that first. But Boston can't let that happen. Kyrie is good. But not that good lol. And he's 25 lol

My biggest fear for Kyrie is injuries. I hope he doesn't take on too much.

I will never understand why he wanted out of Cleveland

If the Cavs really pushed for Jackson from Phoenix and Tatum from Boston and just struck out, then I say this trade was probably the best alternative they could have gotten.

I wonder if they plan on keeping this hoping it lands them a similar player (Porter) or if they would be willing to move this pick to avoid the risk of it falling higher in the draft to try and get a similar player that's already in the league? Wiggins, Jabari, Porter, Hood, etc.

If I'm the Cavs I'm moving the pick. I don't think this trade put them over the hump to beat GS.. and now isn't the time to be trying to be contenders while also saving assets when LeBron is about to bolt.

I agree but what players are even options at this point after this offseason

                    Cousins ? Melo? Drummond ? Gasol ?

So did this make both teams better? I don't really know how to read this trade.

Time will tell how each side ultimately benefits from the trade. The fallout for both could go a number of ways. To call this trade unique given the circumstances would be an understatement. Will certainly be one of those deals that is analyzed in the coming years.

Semi-related to the trade: Jae Crowder lost his mother yesterday to a long battle with cancer. Positive thoughts go out to his family.

I wonder how much dealing a protected pick will hurt the return. Regardless if Lebron leaves or not, I wonder if Cavs deal a top 3 protected pick or something.

But was it their goal and expectation that when their second best player forced a trade, they'd improve or were they just hoping to get the most back they could?

Interesting if they wanted Tatum. Maybe a 3 who could someday replace the scoring from Lebron at that position.

If they targeted Brown or Jackson from Phoenix, it would be about getting a wing who could defend multiple positions, as well as bring youth and athleticism to the team.

Im not sure what their goal was, probably was to just take the best package available. But they wound up with one that should keep them as the Finals favorite in the East so that's where they're at now. I'd be going all in right now if I were them.

Cavs made this deal for after lebron leaves. They are looking towards the future. I'm sure they will be happy if he stays but they got a possible lottery pick to fall back and start the rebuild and got him IT for one more run. Which keeps lebron motivated now.
