    Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

Got to disagree. Especially after the season Giannis just had. He's one of the most efficient scorers in the league, especially after developing his post game. He's a more skilled player than Kawhi,, more comfortable with the ball in his hands, handles better, passes better, initiates the offense better, has a better post game, he's more versatile and can/has literally played all 5 positions on the floor, and he's nearly twice the rebounder. Can play in the half-court as the big man, sets good screens, runs hard to the rim.

The defense is close enough in terms of basketball being played 5 on 5, Kawhi is better mechanically and a better on ball defender, Giannis is longer, more versatile, can defend more spots, can switch more spots. He'll likely never be DPOY, but he'll be competing for defensive team slots every year.

Giannis's skill set effects the other floor players on the floor with him to a greater degree than Kawhi. Being able to initiate the offense and make plays along with scoring just as much and more efficiently, while having a better post game IMO makes his teammates jobs easier to a greater degree.

With DeRozan gone, who are the top 3 SGs in the East?

Celtics GM Danny Ainge and Happy Walters, the agent for restricted free agent guard Marcus Smart, are now seriously engaged in contract talks, league sources tell ESPN. Potential deal range is in the four-year, $46M-$50M range, sources tell ESPN. Talks ongoing.

          yes..please.
Higher number than I expected to see, but it's not my money and I won't be paying the luxury tax. Get it done, Danny. Bring Marcus home.

I think Kawhi vs. Giannis is a fair argument to have. I think Giannis is clearly ahead of Embiid right now, even without factoring in Embiid's health issues which should pretty much end the discussion.

                1. Oladipo

                2. Middleton (assuming you have him as an SG, he toggles between SG/SF)

                3. Beal

3A. Jaylen Brown/Marcus Smart (depending on your tastes).

The SG spot out East is not in tatters, but there's no clear heir to the mantle there -- Oladipo could be a one-year wonder, he might come back to Earth this season. Middleton does a lot of things solidly, but has never had the takeover ability you normally associate with a top-tier guard. Beal can get hot, but his defense isn't stellar and his size+injury history+being on the Wizards (which is a team-chemistry experiment waiting to explode) makes him less likely to excel as much as he could.

Brown/Smart could end up leapfrogging Beal and Middleton in my mind, Brown long-term might end up being the best in 2-3 years time.

So basically like the Cavs for the last 2-3 years.

Dude, you have some weird issue with undermining Kawhi's game/talent level.

I'll let someone else sing his praises, but Leonard is definitely better than Giannis if he's back to 2016 - 2017 form.

By the end of this upcoming season that might not be the case, though.

I'm just happy he's no longer on the team, although we have a gaping hole at SF (not sure Rudy can play it full - time) and our perimeter offense is even worse than before.

Also, Jakob Poetl is a massive upgrade over Joffrey Lauvergne. He could possibly be starting by mid season and can learn under two great centers (Pau & Timmy).

24, you know anything about Treveon Graham from the Hornets? Nets just signed him to a 2 year deal and most of what I’ve read is that he’s a 3 and D type of mold for a player but wasn’t sure if you’ve seen him play at all.

Oklahoma City and Atlanta in trade talks, with Thunder targeting Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala, per sources. Carmelo Anthony would go to Atlanta, with Hawks doing buyout. Atl looking to add asset to make Melo’s buyout a wash. Getting rid of Schroder is No. 1 priority.

Kawhi prepared to sit out the entire season. Wants nothing to do with Toronto, per Sporting News.

WHOA, that's a bold move for OKC -- Schroder? I guess as a sixth-man? Or do you run out a lineup of Schroder, Westbrook, George, Grant, Adams? Muscala isn't terrible either as a serviceable stretch-four.

Interesting. Didn't feel that ATL was so desperate to move on from Schroder they'd take Melo ... surprised they're not trying to attach Plumlee's gross contract to this.
