      Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread

      AD speaks out at ASW:

CHARLOTTE — Anthony Davis confirmed the Knicks are among his preferred destinations in a candid interview ahead of the All-Star game.

The Pelicans forward, who has formally requested a trade, added that the Lakers, Bucks and, most surprisingly, the Celtics are also on his list.

“You want to take control of your career,” Davis said. “Because you’re the one who is playing. That’s what I tried to do.”

The 26-year-old, who holds leverage because he’ll be a free agent in 2020, repeated that his only goal is to win and market size is not a factor.

“Big market, small market. It doesn’t matter. I’m focused on winning on this point of my career and wherever that may be. It can be a big market or small market. I just want to win.”

Asked then about the appeal of the Knicks – which has one of the NBA’s worst records this season and of the last 20 years – Davis said, “It’s a great franchise. Playing in obviously the Garden, the city. But obviously Milwaukee is on that list, too.”

The reported list also included the Clippers.

“Whatever list that came out, that’s between my agent and the Pelicans,” Davis said. “It’s true.”
Minutes later, Davis backtracked a bit and told NBA TV his list includes every team but the Pelicans. That’s also a smarter approach because the trade deadline passed and circumstances (or lists) will change in the summer. A team may also trade for Davis even with no guarantee he’ll sign longterm next summer, much like OKC did with Paul George, Boston did with Kyrie Irving and Toronto did with Kawhi Leonard.

The Knicks, Lakers, Clippers and Celtics are set to get in a bidding war over Davis. The Lakers are the most desperate, the Celtics have the best prospects and the Knicks have the most appealing draft picks (depending on where their 2019 pick lands in the lottery).
It was reported the Celtics were not on Davis’ list but he refuted that Saturday.

“They are on my list,” he said.

The Knicks also have enough cap space to sign a max free agent if they trade for Davis, with Kevin Durant as the top target.

“They have a nice little team,” Davis said. “I don’t go out and look at teams. I’m still with the Pelicans, I’m still representing the other Pelicans. I don’t go out and look at teams like, ‘Oh, how can I fit here? How can I fit here?’ When that time comes, that time comes. So I just have to finish these last 20-something games in New Orleans and see how it goes from there.”

Davis was drafted by the Pelicans in 2012 and developed into an All-NBA player without much winning or exposure. His star power never matched his talent in New Orleans.

On Friday, the Pelicans announced they fired GM Dell Demps and replaced him in the interim with Danny Ferry.

Davis said that did not alter his trade request.
“Obviously the Pelicans have to do what’s best for them. My intentions are still the same no matter who the GM is. My intentions are the same.”
Davis said he is emboldened to control his destiny, following the examples of LeBron James and others who’ve flexed their power.

“I just keep it real to be honest,” Davis said. “I knew that’s what you guys wanted to talk about. So I just say how I feel, state my intentions and that’s it.”

He'd be much better off with the Clippers to be honest.

More like PR damage control because his team totally flubbed his exit out of NO up to this point.

Here's a name we haven't heard in years. Hasheem Thabeet was working out in Charlotte for Raptors, Rockets, Pistons.

I'm not sure how much he's improved, but given how bad he was despite being the 2 pick in a stacked 09 draft, there must have been something that teams wanted to see about him.

Not even sure how he would even fit in today’s NBA when he couldn’t really fit in the early 2010s NBA.

He was too slow a decade ago, can't imagine him finding a spot in today's league.

He was developing a nice little jumper his last season at UConn. I thought he had a chance to be a good pro. Way off on that one.

Dude was an absolute monster in College Hoops 2K8 though, back when height played way too big of a role in how good players were. I swear his rebound percentage was like 75%.

But yeah, theres just no room for slow footed bigs anymore. I do think its kind of cool how the Clippers/Sixers bring in Boban to be menacing for 15 minutes every couple of games.

I'm intrigued by the Thabeet comeback.. I don't exactly recall how well he moved, but I don't think his lack of mobility was ever really his main reason for failing. He doesn't have to be the most mobile guy, if he's just as mobile as someone like Adams, Jokic, Gasol, he can make an impact. I think his biggest thing is putting in the work, the right kind of work. He was young, dumb, didn't want to do what it took to get better. Maybe that's changed.

He could be a decent back up if everything falls into place. I'm not holding my breath on that, but I'm still intrigued to see how it plays out. Boban is one of the best per minute players in the league. You can't play him long stretches, but he's extremely valuable in spurts. Maybe that can be Thabeet.

Which is strange because Jim Calhoun praised his work ethic at UConn. The kid basically couldn't catch a basketball his freshman year (he remains the only basketball player I've ever seen airball a dunk) and won Big East POY two seasons later. He made massive strides in three years. I did hear the rumors that he got complacent in the NBA but I think he was in trouble anyway.

Adams is arguably the strongest dude in the league and a smart player, Jokic is the most skilled big and Gasol obviously has a tremendous skill level and IQ. Thabeet didn't really have any NBA-level skills. His shot-blocking didn't transcend. More than his physical speed, I think the game was simply too fast for him. He always seemed to be a step or two behind. He never had great hands or a great IQ, wasn't an explosive athlete, and his offensive game was limited.

He's definitely not going to be as mobile as them now seeing as how he got older and when he was younger, he still wasn't as mobile as the guys you mentioned.

Nitpicking but I absolutely hate stats like these. Or moreso HOW they're used. It's like when people used Per36 for guys who don't even play more 15-20 mins a game to build up a player or make them seem better than what they actually are.

I will say Boban is useful though and has a considerable amount of skill at his size to boot. He's an exception though.
