This is a example of why I don't like the 1 year college rule going away. Because every top 50 kid in high school is going to go pro once they change the rules.

I highly doubt that, back when that rule didn't exist it, it was pretty rare for a player to declare and go undrafted and per Wikipedia, there have only been 45 high schoolers EVER drafted.Comment

Re: NBA Draft 2020
Jalen Green is planning on going into the NBA GLeague.
How will that work? Will he sign with any team he wants and then get to join their NBA team in the future?
I wouldn't mind NBA keeping their 19+ rule for the draft, but hold a round in the GLeague draft to take guys younger than that who have to spend the year in the GLeague before being NBA eligible.
Either they determine GLeague draft order based on NBA affiliate record or a combination of NBA and GLeague record (so if you're a 60 win nba team whose GLeague team won 25 games, you're total is 85. But a 40 win NBA team with a 40 win GLeague team total is 80).
Or allow those "1 and done" Gleague guys to declare for the NBA draft once age eligible.Comment

He will still be in the draft for when he becomes eligible

He’ll still be eligible to get drafted, sir.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NBA Draft 2020
It's an interesting situation because he's going to go to a G-League team that, against all odds, will not be the NBA team that drafts him. It's weird to think that one NBA/G-League franchise will be responsible for a year's worth of development for a kid who'll likely never play for their big league club."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: NBA Draft 2020
Reading more about this situation, it's going to change everything. We're never going to see another elite prospect play in college if this will be available until the new CBA that allows prep-to-pro again.
The G League will create a “Select Team” in a designated city with a few roster spots for elite high school players who want to play professionally instead of going to college, sources said. The rest of the roster will be made up of veteran players.
The “Select Team” will play a reduced schedule of about 20 games, sources said, which is much fewer than the league’s 50-game schedule.
Even previously discussed plans--such as top prospects making $125k--were enticing enough but now that you've quadrupled the salary and made the peripherals more appealing the NBA has made this impossible to pass up. It should only last a couple of years until the new CBA but man it's a power move by the NBA in the short term."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Jalen Green is making the leap to a reshaped NBA professional pathway program, a G-League initiative that’ll pay elite prospects $500K-plus and provide a one-year development program outside of minor-league’s traditional team structure. Story soon.

As NBA/NBPA talks on eliminating one-and-done remain stalled, strengthening the pro pathway initaitive became even more important to Adam Silver. In many ways, this is a bridge to that eventual day. Green is getting paid $500k to play 20 games, taught/groomed for the NBA game, allowed to sign endorsement deals, and live in SoCal. There isn't a prospect in this country who'll turn that down to go play in college. I have no doubt that the NBA will make sure all 20 Select Team games will be televised too.

My only question is what are they using to determine who’s an “elite prospect”? Like what are the qualifications?#RespectTheCultureComment

But what about education! Students-athletes!
Ha, too late NCAA. Suck it.

Re: NBA Draft 2020
This format would be a major pain for college recruiting, assuming the G-League holds their tryouts in April.
The alternate plan would be to have reps from the Select team scout players throughout their high/prep school season and award Select roster spots earlier on. In essence, the G-League would have their own recruiting rankings.
How the G-League handles down years is another thing, if there's a HS class without any "elite" prospects. I can't imagine them giving $500k to a player who no one thinks is a virtual lock to be an NBA player."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
