It's possible they could draft Ball instead with this move, but my thought was it's easier to grab a point guard later in this draft or through free-agency/trades. And rumors already have New York doing that. New York landed in the Vassell, Okoro, Williams draft range with their best fit option being to pick Haliburton, who seems solid but he's not your PG of the future type of player IMO.

New York would still have chances to draft RJ Hampton, Kira Lewis, Devon Dotson, Tre Jones, Cassius Winston, Grant Riller at 27 or 38..

I just don't feel like Haliburton and Randle is a better situation for them than Ball or Edwards, especially long term when Randle is gone, or overpaid to stay, in a year. I don't know if Haliburton even has the upside that Frank does who is already on the roster.

As for the Chicago deal, how would they make the financials work with LaVine? They'd have to send them Wiggins I believe and I have a hard time seeing Chicago take on salary to get rid of LaVine.
I'm assuming teams have a general idea of who other teams are taking when moves like this are made. I'm doubting they would go into it blindly. Regardless the deal could be agreed on before hand but executed after, where Golden State actually drafts Ball/Edwards and if the team they were agreeing to trade with doesn't end up with their guy then Golden State can explore getting him from the team who did, or move him for someone better elsewhere.

Golden State has nearly 20 million in trade exceptions. Chicago could shed the salary without taking back anything.

I wish Memphis would offer two future firsts, JV, Winslow, or something to land in the top 3 and take Wiseman to keep him in Memphis. They will need a big when JV is gone, as much as I like JJJ he's just a really tall small forward, he's got that Chris Bosh can't rebound if I'm going to shoot jumpers disorder.

Golden State’s largest trade exception is the $17 mil from Iggy and you can’t combine exceptions or combine an exception with a player. So the most expensive player they could get in return is a 17 mil player which is not LaVine.

I look at options like #2 pick and a future first for LaVine and #4, Capela and #6, Randle and #8, because all of those teams are in tough draft spots and could all really benefit from being able to draft Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball.

If they keep their pick I think Wiseman would be a phenomenal fit there. Wiseman has been my favorite player in this class for like 3 years now though. I expect him to be a very good role player from the jump and has a chance to be an elite defensive big at a minimum.

The pick and even bringing Derozan in is fine I’m all for those. I see no reason why we would drop 5 spots In the draft to trade for him. When you could just send word to his agent you will pay him more then this 27 million salary he is getting and keep the 6th pick.

You’ve lost me.. you’re fine with adding DeRozan, you’re fine with taking the same player at 6, but you’d rather pay DeRozan more money just because, or lock a guy like him into long term money?

I would rather him opt out and then sign him to a big 1 year deal and not move down 5 spots in the draft for what seems to be no reason. I’m not giving up a asset for a player we can just sign in FA.

I wouldn’t want to lock him into long term $ with his age and not being a 3 point shooter since our rank is dead last in that area. I think keeping enough $ to sign a max level guy next offseason Needs to be the goal with the one exception being Joe Harris. It’s going to be really hard to spend 40+ million this off-season so I’m not worried about a few million bucks on a 1 year deal.

My whole draft game is screwed up. I'm not ready for this draft at all. Got some alerts about Klutch running some Pie Draft workouts with LeBron and AD in attendance. Talk about branding.

I love what Rich Paul/Klutch are doing and laugh at reports of other agents being upset. Of course you're upset, you didn't think of this first and/or your clientele doesn't warrant as much exposure. Klutch gotta be at or near the top as far as branding a sports agency goes.

Random, but I think it makes a ton of sense for the Pelicans to try to move up and land Wiseman in this draft. I know Golden State is one of the teams rumored to want Jrue.
