At this point, unless a player gets a limb amputated, they will get their monies. So AD will get his contract one way or another, and, like you said, with a 1+1 he leaves his options open.

1.) With AD's injury history I'm not sure this is the best approach for him.

2.) 1+1 also makes sense for him even if they aren't Giannis hunting, LeBron's window is going to close at some point.

3.) Giannis and AD sounds like incredibly fun basketball to watch as a fan, but also as a fan I don't really want to see Giannis form a team with 3 of the top 5 players in the league.. Arguable the top 3 players in the league.

4.) The rest of the Lakers roster would likely be Kuz, THT, and minimum contracts.. Although I'm not really sure how the exception signings carry over, so perhaps Wes and Trez also remain on the roster.

5.) I would rather see him join Miami if he's going to leave.

6.) I still believe he's signing his max deal to stay.
About how much cap space would LA have next year if AD does a 1+1 ? They should have

It will be interesting to watch - especially with no real significant big man to name. Wall has shown stretches of being a fantastic floor general, but that hasn't been in about 3 years now. Beal can now create his own shot off the dribble and also penetrate the paint much better than when Wall last played. Not to mention some of the younger pieces they have that are still developing.

For Beal/Wall its been more about finding the right supporting pieces and that will still be true. Bertrans offers some fire-power, but there's still holes a plenty on that floor.

I think the Beal/Wall Wizards hit the ceiling when they completely buckled to the Pacers in the East Semi-Finals. That's what - six years ago?

            Ouch, this hurts.

The Bucks used Pat Connaughton's Early Bird rights to re-sign him to a three-year deal:

            2020-21: $4,938,273
            2021-22: $5,333,334
            2022-23: $5,728,393 (player option)

Celtics/Wizards matchups during that period was high quality sports entertainment. Those playoff series were emotionally exhausting. Some wild, wild games.

Completely forgot about that series. Good call.

I never really thought they would win that series unlike the Pacers, but definitely the last time they were playing high caliber ball that's for sure. That Wall 3 still gives me goosebumps.

So only 3 years ago? lol

Might as we have been 20 years ago in 2020 math.

That was the last time we saw Wall play too.

I know its not cool to question the heat, but what are they doing using their cap space to sign 1 year deals and then sign Bam to a extension eating up the books next year unless you bring back the same older guys.

                      @ByTimReynolds

The Heat are in the process of extending Bam Adebayo's contract.

Increases the Bucks chances of signing Giannis as they have the same agent.

I believe they would be set up to have Jimmy and Bam under contract, the money to sign Giannis, and then sign Herro.

If the cap next year ends up being what is currently expected, they'll need to either get rid of Butler or get rid of every other player, Herro included. And even that wouldn't be enough if Bam ends up hitting the criteria to unlock a larger max contract.

Simply put, Miami just made it unnecessarily a lot harder if not impossible to sign Giannis outright next offseason.

A sign-and-trade could still theoretically be possible, but again, there's really no reason for Miami to take this step right now when they control Bam's future and could have taken advantage of his low cap hold to build the best team possible.
