The dream is over. Shams is reporting that Giannis says he is signing an extension with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Philly does check off the boxes. A young All Star you can build around, rotational players on rookie contract, and draft picks Cross Milwaukee of the list. For the Nets, is it really Kyrie or no deal? I like Kyrie, but I don't think he's in that "build around him" part of his career anymore. Then if you're talking Dinwiddie and LaVert, and other pieces, then that is alright at best.

I'm torn. I do see Harden as the "better fit". But, I still rather see how it goes with Ben and Joel first with this roster. Replacing Ben with Harden changes the identity of the team. Ben's defensive versatility to be able to guard 1-4 can't easily be replaced.

I can see it becoming a 3 team deal though
I don't blame you at all for wanting to see Ben with the improved shooting around him at all. I'd probably do the same, especially if nobody else is stepping up in their pursuit of Harden yet.

Bucks in my opinion have no hope of getting him unless the Rockets owner is trying to spite Harden and thinks he'd hate Milwaukee so I agree we can pretty much cross them off.

I wouldn't cross Brooklyn off entirely because it's possible Houston will ultimately settle for the young-ish guys Brooklyn has, but I think their best realistic offer is behind what Philly and Miami could and should offer.

I tend to think it'll be Philly, Miami, or someone not on Harden's list like Denver or Portland or something stepping up.

At least we have a superstar who will actually stay in a small market team for a change instead of jumping to one of the usual cities.

At the end of day, I do feel like Philly is the landing spot. Miami and Philly has the best offers. I think it is a situation where Houston and Harden doesn't want him to be in the West, unless a team has the best offer.
I do want to see how it plays out. But at the same time, I think for Ben to reach his full potential, he needs to be the clear #1. I don't think he'll ever be the #1 with Joel here. I think Ben gets to passive on offense in the half court. If Ben is the number one, I would put a combo guard who can shoot, a couple floor spacers, and a defensive rim runner at Center.

Yeah, I'll admit that at least part of me wanting it to be Philly is because I also want to see Ben with a team built around him as the centerpiece.

In that context it's good news. It's cool that Giannis is happy. But people rooting for players to stay with the team that drafted them out of "loyalty" just because is strange thinking in 2020.

Ben needs to be in a situation where he knows he is the man. Even if we do well and things are gelling, I don't think it'll be Ben's peak. For Tobias to be worthwhile, he needs to be treated like a #2. I expect a lot more PnR for Tobias. Ben has to really buy in off the ball this year for this team to be successful.

I would want Tucker in the deal, just for that defensive versatility. Harden would have to remain a PG since we don't have a true PG on roster or a playmaker outside of Ben. Harden- Curry-Green- Tobias Embiid isn't bad at all. Could definitely score with any team. Just would need Green to still be a good wing defender.

I never said he should stay with them due to loyalty. But it's refreshing to see a player chose a small market over a bigger one for a change. Look how many have gone to LA,Miami,Brooklyn and so on the past few seasons alone.

I agree with this, but it does feel good for Bucks fans in the Wisconsin area. The media from all different angles had Giannis going here and there and superstars don't want to play for a small market team going to Miami, Golden State, Lakers,etc.....

For once in my short term memory, a superstar has said he likes Milwaukee and he did prove that by signing the contract.(besides the $ factor)

Yelich, Rodgers and now Giannis have signed and stayed for small market teams in WI.

I saw fans saying they wish he didn't take the super max. Only because it gives them less flexibility.

I’m glad to see him stay and it join up on some super team in a big city. I still don’t trust the front office and ownership to do what it takes for him to win their for the length of the deal. From her on out Either they pay the luxury tax every year or his supporting cast gets worse.

I’ve not looked into it in depth, but I assume the price tag for jrue just went up with so many teams having cap space and fewer elite guys than expected.

I truly believe that was part of Giannis signing the deal, the Bucks FO stay in the hunt for the ring.

I just don't know if the FO will deliver. They tried with Jrule and Bogdan and we know how the latter ended up.

They have said they aren't afraid to go into the luxury tax area.

This confirms it from ESPN +:

This last offer staggered Milwaukee. As the decision-makers discussed it internally, sources said, they knew it was an overpay. They also knew there was the matter of eventually extending Holiday, which is expected to cost in the range of $30 million per season, sources said. But they recognized that not only would it be a tremendous upgrade to their roster but a strong message to the man in Greece, who was waiting to see substantial improvement.
