So at basically 39 mill a year for next 3 years, what would be considered a success for Gordon Hayward. 20-5-5 isn't going to cut it especially if they aren't making the playoffs.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
I'm sure they tried, but I would have traded Rozier instead of eating that dead $ for the next 3 years. I believe they were only like 7 million away from making the $ work.Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
I think numbers alone are a harsh metric. If I told you there’s a player in the NBA that makes $38m, $40m and $43m in the next three years despite his career year being 22/4/2, you’d think it’s an extreme overpay.
Hayward won’t ever get back to his Utah form but he wasn’t built to succeed in Boston. He was supposed to be the guy next to Kyrie and through no fault of his own broke his leg 2 minutes into his debut. By the time he came back Jaylen Brown had established himself as a good option and Tatum was very comfortable as a rookie, especially in the playoffs. He was the forgotten man before the end of his first year with them. $39m is steep but if he’s a positive influence on a young core and helps them improve then it doesn’t really matter.

If he can improve the culture and help guide them in the right direction, that's as a success. If he can give them that 20-5-5, be a leader and improve culture, and have Hornets sneak into that 8th spot, that would be a good yearComment

An even with the contract starting next year they have Rozier as the only other player making more than a rookie/min level deal on the roster. I'm sure they will release rights to Monk and Zeller as neither of them will be worth their 13 and 23 mil in cap holds, so basically they will still have max contract money this off-season.Comment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Do we still feel like there will be any major trades prior to season?
We're past the major "waves" of FA. We're in the non-guaranteed part of FA, just guys trying to fight to get onto final roster. Most rosters are pretty much set and not too many teams with cap spaces besides Knicks. I think once the week of Season Tip-off, we won't really see trades until trade deadline. I think we have 2 weeks of waiting to see if there will be trades.
I think Harden and Westbrook are staying put. I feel Nets and 76ers wants to see how rosters are as constructed. I rather see KD and Kyrie with roster as constructed and rather see Ben and Joel with this roster. I don't see Wall moving. Only one I see likely is RozierComment

Apparently Cam Reddish grew a little bit this offseason I've not heard how much yet. I'm not expecting it to be much.Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
I doubt they'll convince two max - level free - agents to sign (one can falsely hope), but the Spurs will at least be in the market for absorbing some bad contracts with picks attached next Summer.
I think that would be the wiser move over chasing FA's that won't sign to a small market, "heard stuff" about the organization during the Kawhi "fiasco" or don't want to play with such an inexpercienced/battle - tested core of players.
None of which, although of no fault of their own since their almost all are late first - round/non - lottery picks (minus Vassell), are high - end prospects to begin with or have really broken out to at least a borderline all - star level.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
This is how I felt when Derrick Rose, Wade and LeBron all started a season on our roster. Hope it works out better for the Nets than it did for us lol.
