All the city needed was an ownership group and the WNBA were gonna award them a team, it was supposed to happen last year. With this news, I could see things really picking up. Wonder if that group goes all in and buys the women's hockey team too which has been a big success and just really starts pushing women's pro sports as the interest is clearly there from within the city.

The venue options will be interesting. If not owned by the Raptors ownership group, they probably won't play there (not that they'd fill that arena anyways), but could easily see them playing in the minor hockey arena (which has also been a proposed location for the Women's hockey team as it seats 9000 people) or the 905 G League arena outside the city which would attract a more family oriented/lower budget crowd and a lot more schools/camp groups going to it.
    That's awesome!!!

It probably would be better if they weren't in the middle of downtown.

Downtown doesn't reflect the majority of the city/greater area anymore.

Having it at the Coliseum where people can get there from out of town through the train, or just drive there and have lots of parking, would be a much better option. I've heard people say the ceiling is too low for basketball but I've seen basketball in there before (The globetrotters have been there, NBA all star celeb game there I believe, and they've held NCAA events there too).

It's very doable and I'm excited to see where this is headed. I know people involved in diff areas of sports in the city and many do believe this is long overdue.

All I know is I don’t wanna hear a peep from these girls bitching about not promoting their product. I’ve seen as much Clark and Reese on my feeds the last couple months as I did Wemby and Zion.

Obviously seems great for the league overall. If this class is as good as people think it can be it might be league changing. Paige and JuJu coming soon after too.

I’ve seen idiots on Twitter going crazy over how much Caitlin is making in her first year but I’m not surprised.

Like I said in the other thread. How is Reese and Kamalia on the same team?

Those girls were beasts on the boards. I can't imagine what they are going to do together.

                            Re: WNBA/ G League Thread

Toronto awarded a WNBA team in 2026.

We'll see how they do, but the way the women's hockey team has taken off (good TV numbers and sold out arenas), there's definitely potential for the WNBA team.

Seems the disconnect between getting a WNBA team happened between some of the people part of the Raptors ownership group. One of them split from the group and has his own company now and got a team. The guy still part of the Raptors ownership group also didn't like Masai too much....shows how much that guy knows about basketball if he said no to Masai and a WNBA team but other people in that group had opposite feelings.

Doubt it'll ever happen, but wonder if this ownership group one day tries buying the Raptors if the Raptors ownership groups really just care about hockey.

Didn't catch any of the openers but saw some highlights. Rookie class definitely has my interest piqued as it had dropped of some the past few years..

Their defense did look solid, DiJonai can chase me around the court too if she needs some extra practice lol.
