Man I just can't stomach these fake people acting like they give a damn about the WNBA after they've spent the last 30 years ****ting on women's basketball and just as long calling NBA players soft for not doing more of exactly what happened to Clark yesterday. I've literally seen the words "assault" & "tackle" thrown about with regards to the Carter foul and how she needed to be thrown out of the game. Like are we seriously doing this right now?

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
The reaction has been so over the top.Was it a cheap shot? No doubt. But also…so what? It’s sports - hit back and get on with the game. A #1 draft pick, even more one coming in with the amount of hype she has, is always going to have to deal with and push thru this kind of stuff. It’s part of the game.
The Sky and Fever still play each other three more times this season. Hopefully the WNBA can capitalize on the drama.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
It was a dirty play, but apparently the player who did that has a history of issues on and off the court.
She got suspended in Atlanta due to her trying to fight one of her own teammates, got benched and not re-signed by LA due to off court issues, then she tried making it in a Turkish league and she left there to go back home. All that in a 2 or so year span.
This definitely feels like an attention seeking move. How many people who follow or don't follow the WNBA had ever heard of Chennedy Carter before that?Last edited by Majingir; 06-02-2024, 06:11 PM.Comment

Oh and Clark elbowed her in the face on a prior play to the incident everyone is talking about. Looking at the replay, I don't think it was intentional, but it's hard to argue intent on a play like that and in the moment if you're Carter and they're chirping back and forth how would you know if getting hit in the face is intentional or not?
This is going to be naueseating watching people act like Caitlin Clark is a saint just out there walking on water doing absolutely nothing at all but playing ball and everybody in the league hates her and only her.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
I don’t give two ****s about the “hard” foul. She’s an athlete she’ll be ok[emoji23].
But to Kings last point, it does seem like a chunk of the league just randomly hates her. I assume it’s popularity as they were already sorta chirping about it before she was even drafted.
Regardless I can’t hardly open my phone without seeing something about either her or Angel Reese daily. With a bit of the occasional Cameron Brink post sprinkled in. It’s all an easy scroll past for me but at least the rookies are bringing more attention to the league… but all these media outlets could have been doing this with the players in the league already the past few years. I saw far less about Wilson and Stewart these past couple of years than I do these rookies and they should have been marketed as super-stars.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
The sentiment in the league seems to be far more of we’re not going to let some 21/22 year old take over our league. However, it seems a good portion of people are trying to twist it into something else."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
Definitely and you could see how players were annoyed when being asked about her coming into the league.
Shannon called them Bird and Magic (Clark & Reese) and said the current players were jealous. I don’t know that either has best player in the league potential, but I could definitely all these current players taking it personal for them getting the attention they feel like they should have been getting this whole time.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
Sabrina commented too saying it took her about 2 years to shake off the 1st overall pick scent around the league (I'm paraphrasing), so I'm guessing maybe there is some sort of mentality within the league. Until you prove it in the league, the hype means nothing. That's true in all leagues, but don't know how many issues others in the league have with the player. If anything in other leagues teams are annoyed at the extra media coverage for 1 "kid" which impacts them too in games vs that person and their team.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
King is 100% right on every thing he said.
Another thing is you have too many people who aren’t equipped to be talking about this league…talking about the league. Everyone is being disingenuous talking about it and don’t even get me started on that “foul” like what are we doing here? lol
Folks are trying to make whole race/diaspora wars about this league and I’m just trying to enjoy the games without the other messy noise. Unfortunately for the W, because they wanted the attention, they get to deal with the same mess that the NBA gets every year(which most people don’t have a problem with the same discourse going on there but that’s another topic for another day lol).
End of the day, if you’re a new fan that’s trying to get into the league, you gotta stop/avoid feeding into the BS/outside noise and look for people who actually talk about the game and have been following/covering it for some time. Yes, you have to actually LOOK for it, which I can admit I had to do also and it’s been for the better. And if you need some names, I can drop them here.
And Maj, you were being messy as hell with that post and bringing up her history lol come on now#RespectTheCultureComment

Caitlin will be alright once she stops whining and flopping trying to draw fouls all the time. Too many people weren't around back when Candance Parker was a rookie and what they were doing to her during her rookie season and it shows. Also Caitlin is 22 yr old grown *** woman. If she can't take the heat, she need to stop talking crap during the game. If you are going to talk crap during a game in any sport, you better be able to back it up and don't act like you are innocent when a player checks you.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
I think what might irk me the most is the constant "they should be thanking Caitlin for making the WNBA relevant" and "they're getting a team in Toronto & chartered flights because of Caitlin and this is how they treat her" takes that are being spewed everywhere. Like what? Is it really attention for the league or for CC? These people still have ZERO respect for the WNBA and the women in the league and women's sports in general. They're still ****ting on the league and the sport and calling them boring and they aren't watching the other teams or players in the league, they're watching Caitlin Clark games. This isn't like Tiger Woods growing golf because eyes or on all these other golfers because they're all playing in the same tournaments or Serena with tennis and the tournaments they're watching because of her. People are tuning into CC games and peacing out.
It just blows me that there's this notion that A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and all these other elite athletes should be bowing at the feet of Caitlin Clark because she's gonna stop the 28 year old league from folding. Give me a break.Comment

Re: WNBA/ G League Thread
You’re not wrong King but you’re acting like these type of ****ty takes aren’t just a daily thing at this point lol. I feel like that’s part of what turns off people to the NBA as well, they’re just doing the same here now that they have something “popular” enough at the moment to stir the pot.
American basketball coverage in general is ***. Just a reactionary, click-bate driven, lazy narrative environment.Comment

King in here speaking facts.
Tired of the casuals saying, "CC should just go to Europe, bet they won't be clapping when they back to flying Spirit", and then act surprised when vets (teammates included) have a chip on their shoulder. They have worked to play at the highest level of their profession, only to have their game invalidated and disrespected for most of their careers by people, most of whom can't make a left-handed layup, until now.
It's no different than Corporate America. Guarantee you these same casuals would be seething, as a good, tenured performer at their employer, if some 24-year old fresh out of b-school became their manager because the senior executive was enamored with their collegiate pedigree and fresh ideas. Boss doesn't want to hear from the tenured employees; boss wants them to be open-minded, embrace transformation, and show gratitude for the impact contributions of the NKOTB.
Most of the comments backing/cappin' for CC against the rest of the W are being...disingenuous, anyways. I have to leave it at that, but y'all know what I mean.
I'm just waiting for the Fever to play Phoenix - everyone talking about DT...nah, Sophie Cunningham (the Pat Beverly of the WNBA) about to have her in a Kimura Lock by halftime.Rice Owls - Houston Astros/Dynamo/Rockets/Texans - Arsenal - PSGComment

Yeah, whenever I see folks make the “They should be thanking CC because without her, they wouldn’t be worth a damn”, it def approaches that racial element area.#RespectTheCultureComment
