Man, Utah had the right idea making their 'City' jersey the bases for their next jersey set.

I think Minnesota should definitely follow suit cause their 'City' jersey crushes their current look.

Can this hopefully convince Chuck to finally get into 2K?

Pelicans should also do something similar with their city jersey.

Utah going back to the old school look is a great choice.

TWolves changing to their white city look or a modified version of their current would be good. Get rid of the horizontal line on the jersey and make the wordmark bigger.

Nuggets I'd go back to the Melo era jerseys, those were some of the best jerseys in NBA history imo.

Pacers should go back to the Reggie era pinstripe look.

Thunder as a whole need a whole new rebrand. Logo, jerseys, all of it.

I have been seeing a lot about the NBA viewership decline. I agree with the general sentiment about style of play and streaming.

I became a huge NBA fan after the Jordan Era. One thing I have noticed is the huge lack of actual characters in the NBA. I loved guys like Ron Artest, Josh Smith, JR. Smith (Henny god!!) and Lance Stephenson.

They weren’t the greatest but I had fun watching them and their antics. I remember cringing watching J Smoove obliviously jack up 3s while shooting 25%. lol. I don’t feel like that about any current player. Everyone feels so sterile now. No cool nicknames or vibes. The NBA always personality. I feel it’s severely lacking now.

I still find it really entertaining. But watching the NBA Cup you can really see we are getting a watered down version during the regular season. These guys are going all out. The defense is ratcheted up. Different strategies employed. I actually forgot what defense looked like.

But between the load management , oversaturation of 3 point shooting and the stars getting fouls called they shouldn't. I can see how it's turned alot of people off. The challenges are also awful and need to be gone. Too time consuming and boring. At least get rid of them in the regular season. Or get limited to 1 a game. Whoever came up with that was a moron.

I honestly think the biggest problem though is the over saturation of threes and how do you fix that? You know watching Curry splash threes is a beautiful thing or Luka's stepback three. Dame getting hot from deep. That's the fun and beauty that the three point shot was supposed to bring to the game.

Watching randos jack 3's because analytics say so Is not, and it's boring and there's little variety. You just feel like you are watching a very generic pick up game. And defenders can't really even get into their airspace either. It's not right but it's what the game has become. That's my biggest problem with the league.

The NBA ratings last year were already rock bottom meanwhile every other sport is up. NBA is down 28% since last year and the NBA cup already down double digits in the 2nd year that's massive numbers. I know they just signed the massive TV deal, but the ratings are down 48% since 2012. That gives the league a few years to fix some issues, and I don't think this commish is the right guy to do that.

There are a variety of factors at play. The Hornets and Bulls missing 75 3s the other day is just so on the nose.

Looking forward, I'd like to see a bit more handchecking. Not go back to the 80s/90s, but allow more rugged and physical D. Make the physical defender a real role again and give it some agency. That way the offensive explosions feel more earned. I loved watching Kobe go up against a Ron Artest or Tony Allen.

The NBA is my favorite league, still. It's the only one I pay for. I do hope the decline forces the NBA to rethink some things though.

I feel it's comeuppance a bit for the past 5-10 years.

There's load management. I stopped buying Hawks packages 3 or 4 years ago because I'd rather wait and see who was gonna play in the game. I'm not gonna complain and moan, but I will adjust accordingly.

We had half a decade of the best players demanding trades away from franchise bases that loved them to chase championships. Like, who really cares if KD or Melo or AD gets commemorated with a statue?

I also think one and done in college killed the springboard and energy the draft used to have. Imagine a Caitlin Clark/Angel Reese type rivalry spilling from college to the NBA.

Then there's the 3 ball. I was listening so some NBA media the other day and they pointed out how the lowest 3 point attempts per game team today, is tied with the Warriors from Stephs initiall historic run back in 15-16. Crazy.

I think moving to NBC next year and locking in on Sundays after football is a good thing.

I think ratings are also down in part because many fans/fan bases are just in "wait until the playoffs" mode.

Fans of certain teams know they don't have a shot to win, fans of top teams know it won't matter unless they do anything in the playoffs, so that has an impact on it too.

Plenty of factors, but regarding defense, they tried to fix that, what was it, 2 or 3 years ago? And it did work, at least from my point of view, but how long did that last before it reverted? 2 weeks? A month?

Guess I'm starting to realized that Adam Silver might be indeed, the wrong guy to tackle this.

In my case specifically, like I have stated before, I just pretty much don't watch any regular season games for any sport voluntarily. Aside from rare stuff like Opening Day (MLB), All-Star Game (MLB), Thanksgiving games (NFL), Christmas games (NBA), regular season games that might determine a playoff birth/positioning, a player/team is about to break a record or a storyline breaks through (hitting streak, bad blood etc.) I just wait for the playoffs. The best /real games are in the playoffs so that's what I watch.

Only reason I do watch regular season games for any sport is that I work at night and I rather go old school and watch sports (reminds me of the good old times) than for some of the guys at the office, bless their heart, set up a film/series I haven't seen, but I'm looking forward to watch later, and then spoiling it for me.

Then, since we don't get any sport-specific channels (think ESPN or NBA TV), we rely on whatever is on NBC/ABC/FOX (we don't even get CBS or TNT ), which means a healthy diet of NFL/College Football, then a bit of NBA/College Basketball.

Don't know how they are accounting for all the people that have moved on to streaming, my sense it wouldn't account for all the loses in viewership.

                          Bad news:
They're looking at a 4 team tournament (3 all star teams + rising stars challenge winner) competing.

Semi final games would be first to 40 points.

Finals would be first to 25.

It's a work in progress and not finalized, but I don't like that. If you're doing 4 teams, make it 4 all star teams.

Each game is a 12 min quarter, then the finals is two 12 min quarters. Maybe go video game mode where the winning team then is allowed to add 2 players from the losing team on to their roster.
Not sure how this would resolve the effort issue. Looks more like a gimmick way to hide the effort issue. Guess they are thinking since effort increases a bit in the 4th quarter, lets just have four 4th quarters lol

The league is in a weird spot. LeBron was the face for so long but he’s not dominant anymore and he has no successor. So they’re missing a face for one.

More importantly, the game needs a serious revamp. It’s so boring to watch now cause everyone bought into analytics and jacks up 3s and aren’t allowed to play defense.

And this All-Star revamp is such a joke too but shows just how desperate they are. Hey at least they’re trying.

                              Re: NBA Off Topic Thread

Aside from the 3pt Barrage that’s been taking place in games, Superstars have zero personality(outside of Anthony Edwards), games are becoming difficult to watch because you need multiple streaming different streaming services in order to watch(YTTV, League Pass, Hulu and whatever local service provider is in your area)there’s no storytelling/buildup for games, there’s a constant focus/discourse on which star player needs to leave their current team ALL year long regardless of how many years is left on their current deal, NBA Media is the worst out of all 4 major pro sports because they’re more pressed about being all buddy buddy with players and afraid of being *too* critical on certain ones.

It also doesn’t help that 95% of the league plays exactly the same, which was never the case less than 10 years ago. Teams all want to play like the Celtics, Warriors despite not having nowhere near the talent or coaching to do so. Even if you’re a die hard nba fan, what is entertaining about every team playing exactly the same?

People love to throw the “this is the most skilled generation ever” card out and I can agree with that. But what good is that if they’re struggling to do basic fundamentals or if everyone is basically just a shooter/screen setter/roll guy on the floor?

I disagree with what Maj said about folks not watching because “regular season doesn’t matter”. Don’t think that one holds much weight as much as it used to in the past. Maybe some feel that way but I don’t think a large portion of the fanbase does. NBA has always been a hard place, scheduling wise, because of when they start and what they’re competing against for half of the season(NFL)and seeing as how they pretty much lost Christmas, most people aren’t checking them until February and at that point, there’s only a 2 months left in the season. Tbh, I’m not sure what they can do to get ratings back up outside of cutting some games from the season, which they won’t do. But once Lebron, KD, Steph are gone, it’s going to be rough for them.

I don’t even think cutting games would help. It’s always brought up in baseball and it may be beneficial for health reasons, but I don’t think there’s a legit difference to a casual fan between the 14th game in an 82 game season and the 14th game in a 66 game season. I think they’d just tune in at game 40 instead of 50.
