    Re: NBA Off Topic Thread

Most disappointing and unfortunately not at all surprising has been the fallout from the situation. I’m watching two oppressed groups engage in a dick measuring contest to prove who has it worse. Obviously not everyone involved, but a good number representing both sides are having a tug of war over the whole thing. All while the common enemy sits back as the only one benefiting from any of it.

Thought about actually watching the goddamed documentary before realizing it is 3 hours and 28 minutes long, what the heck
      OSHA Inspector for the NBA.

This sums up pretty much every comment you’ll see under the articles on FB about this. Had callers on NBA radio mad that people are upset at Kyrie because the “Holocaust wasn’t as bad as slavery”..

Also nothing new. This has been going on long before most of us were walking this planet. I know certainly before I was here.

Since I did raise the question of has anyone been suspended for something similar before I just want to clarify. What was throwing me off was because he wasn't suspended for what he posted on social media. He was suspended because his apology wasn't strong enough and that is what prompted my question.

But after giving it thought, he wasn't suspended because of that. That may be the reason provided but its not the underlying reason. And that reason is the same had he been suspended the day after making the post. The Nets (and NBA) want the story to go away. Thats always the reason.

First they tried to let it run its course as normal, with Kyrie apologizing in the initial press conference after which the story would cycle out. But they realized that wasn't going to happen. Each time Kyrie spoke he reset the timer on keeping the story in the cycle. So they ctrl+alt+deleted the story by suspending him.

              *smh*

He wasn’t suspended for the IG post. Fair game if that was the case.

But he was suspended for not publicly denouncing antisemitism and apologizing.

              Different story.

The team can do whatever they want. But if he wanted to be a dick he could’ve easily gotten in the you-know-who of attorneys out there to fight that.

As much posturing people felt like Kyrie was doing..that statement was just as much a pissing contest by the team. Came off more emotional than actually legal.

I’m surprised but not really surprised that he folded so quickly.

                Exactly.

I’ve seen a few players get asked questions about it from the Media(which is fair)and players gave generally safe responses.

But then it’s not enough. “Oh, well you need to say his(Kyrie)name directly or you need to say what EYE I want you to say otherwise I’m going to assume all of you are just like Kyrie also, so shame on you, etc”. That’s why I said earlier that this bigger than just Kyrie.

To me, it comes across of putting the responsibility of the *us* to speak out and clean up the mess HE made. It’s not on KD or Booker or Al or Joel or Giannis to clean up his mess. That’s between him and his employers and so far, he’s attempting to do that, even if it is after the fact and that’s still not enough(This is not me saying he needs to be applauded for finally doing what he should’ve done much earlier)

The silliest comparison I’ve seen is that the silence of players is no different than Police Unions whenever a POC is shot by them. And that’s been said from a few people that cover the sport. I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not, especially in a sport where 75-80% of your players are Black but yet the majority of people that cover/interview these players…are white.

We weren’t asking/pressing out all white players to apologize/speak out against Meyers Leonard with his comments a few years ago, so do the same here.

(SN: Them Black Hebrew Israelites have always been some crazies. Used to hear them dudes preaching on the corner when I was a kid. I haven’t met or known a single person to take them dudes serious at all)

Not a different story at all. Again, he works for the Brooklyn Nets and what does or does not come out of his mouth while he works for the Brooklyn Nets can be seen as a reflection of the Brooklyn Nets. His bosses told him what he needed to do and he didn't do it and got suspended. There's no lawyer that's going to save his *** from conduct detrimental.

The world in general needs to faze it out. Most people don't deserve a platform where they can post what they are always thinking. Not responsible enough. It's a bad idea. It's been a bad idea. Especially for this generation.

"I ain't here to judge nobody or talk down on the life or how they feel with their views and things," Durant said. "I just didn't like anything that went on. I felt like it was all unnecessary. I felt like we could have just kept playing basketball and kept quiet as an organization."
This wasn't going away man. How you think the Nets organization just wasn't going to say nothing at all?

The way that franchise has been run since they moved I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nets didn’t finish the year in Brooklyn
