I'm not certain Bud is the reason Giannis got hurt, but when you hear constantly "he doesn't adjust", and then losing to the 8, and Giannis himself hinted about coaching... welpWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Oh yeah, Doc is getting fired if they lose this round. He kind of knows it. He made a comment to the media before the playoffs basically saying "we're going in underdogs to the Celtics, but changes would need to be made if we do lose. I don't think that's right, if you all expect us to lose"
With Doc, I never thought he was the right coach. On one hand, Embiid has had his 3 best years under Doc. Doc has gotten better this year with his adjustments and lineups. But, it's hard to overlook the decisions he made in the playoffs that cost series. Going all Bench lineups in the ATL series, going with DeAndre Jordan and Millsap last year. Like with Bud, when they're isn't an easy to upgrade the roster, that's when the coach gets canned. When it comes to upgrading the roster, I think Tobias Harris's contract is the key. He has very large expiring contract. He's a good vet, he's shown that he's willing to adjust his game to fit the team's needs. I can see a bad team trading for him to reach the salary floor. Sixers needs to turn Harris's contract into 2-3 good rotational players.
I know Dantoni's name will be thrown in there. But I'm all for Sam Cassell getting promoted to HC. The players there all respect and love him there. I think the culture there would be different compared to under Doc. My issue with Doc is accountability. I've never heard Doc take accountability for his decisions. It's never "I" when something goes wrong, it's "we".Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
He's still stubborn and gets sensitive when he gets questioned about his decisions. I can see him taking the year off if(when) he gets fired. If it wasn't for Harrell stinking up the joint early in the season, he would still be would be going with him as the primary backup. He "trusted" washed centers like Howard, DeAndre Jordan, Millsap, when they were obviously a detriment to the teamComment

I hope we don't go for the aging Pringles, not sure I want Asst HC
credentials taking over the Bucks, although, I have always liked Cassell.
That's why I'm not in favor of Charles Lee, if you fire Bud, you need to clean
the slate.
I'm sure Giannis signed off this move and I'm sure he will approve the new
HC.Comment

Outside of 2019, what makes Nurse so special/attractive to folks?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
1. He was kinda the architect of the defense that shut the Bucks down in 2019 or whatever year it was (though I personally tend to think it didn't really take a brain surgeon to just sell out on stopping Giannis and let the Bucks shooters miss all their shots) and therefore may be the right person to figure out how to beat it.
2. The main knock on Budenholzer is how slow he is to make adjustments; Nurse is pretty famous for making drastic adjustments at a moment's notice.
3. The Bucks can't really afford to take a chance on a first time head coach right now. Of the veteran coaches that are currently available (either unemployed or currently employed as an assistant), Nurse seems to have the best resume. You could argue for Atkinson or Vogel, but Bud was Atkinson's mentor so that seems unlikely, and Vogel just doesn't inspire much confidence IMO.
I also personally tend to think the Raptors talent is pretty overrated and I think Nurse got a lot of them but I know a lot of people would say the opposite.
At any rate, Nurse stands out for now, at least until someone like Ty Lue maybe becomes available. I know Bill Simmons is saying he thinks the Bucks are waiting for Doc Rivers to be fired but I'm hoping he's just talking out his *** lol.NFL: Bills

Toronto was actually better the year after they won it all without Kawhi. Obviously they didn’t have the superstar talent to get through a playoff run and ended up losing to Boston in 7, but that was a pretty big overachievement. Then they were *** during the pandemic year but didn’t have home games. And the year after that back to 48 wins and the 5 seed with a pretty average group, and this year .500 ball.
EDIT: never mind they weren’t better, they finished with 5 less wins that following year. But still the 2 seed.
Remains to be seen what he looks like with a different group of guys but compared to other coaches based his limited run he’s basically overachieved with every group he’s had. And the one year he had the talent to win it all he did win it all. So I think it’s less about what he’s done outside of 2019 and more so what year has he actually done bad or failed to overachieve? If we cut them a break for the pandemic year this year would be the worst year he’s had and they still went .500 with no All-Stars and rumors all year that he would be out.. suggesting maybe he lost the locker room.
Stylistically he’s coached the last few years with no center in the rotation. Plenty of lineups with Siakam being the biggest guy on the floor, running small ball 5s from time to time like Birch, Achiuwa, etc. Which feels like a perfect fit next to Giannis and even a guy like Portis. Lopez might feel like the odd man out in that group, based on the year he just had he should be easily trade-able, but also remember the year Nurse won it all he had a massive stretch 5 in Gasol who is probably a similar comp to what Brook is right now.
Not sure he’s the absolute best coach who will be available but he does seem like a good fit for the roster Milwaukee has.Last edited by ojandpizza; 05-06-2023, 05:52 PM.Comment
