Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
You can say that about all sports
The NHL only has 4 people who coached on their current team prior to 21-22
NBA has 11 guys who have been there since 20-21
MLB at 12 guys who coached before 2021
NFL with 10 who coached before 2021Comment

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
Seeing reports that Bulls are looking to resign DeRozan and still want to compete. I can get resigning DeRozan to a 1 year deal. But, it feels like Bulls are still destined to be a play-in team. Next offseason is a better FA class. Ideally if Lonzo was healthy and Lavine can stay healthy, maybe you can talk yourself into it. But, just feels like that organization is just focused on attendance and profits.
I would do a rebuild. Let DeRozan walk or S&T, Caruso's value will not get any higher than it is now, see if Lavine still has any trade value. Next year is a better draft and FA.Comment

Time to join this thread... hoping the Knicks re-sign OG.
Hartenstein is most likely gone. The Knicks can only offer him something like 16-18M, I believe, he will get 20+ somewhere. Not too worried about him as we can't have both iHart and Mitch. We need a big that can space the floor.
I'd try running it back with a healthy Randle and OG. Although health and OG can be an issue.Comment

Any truth to the Mikal Bridges rumors to NY?

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
There aren’t any because they’re not trading him and if they do, it won’t be to the Knicks anyway for various reasons.
Feel like he’s another example of a good player that folks want to get off a bad team and play for a good team just because especially when it makes no sense from the Nets side to do that.
Only time it made sense was when Houston came calling and were offering our picks back. And time will tell if that was a dumb decision or a foolish one.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
Also, the Knicks will not have the best offer for Bridges.
Further, I'm not sure he's a better fit than Randle.
The Knicks are in a weird spot as well, they'll have to re-sign OG for a big contract this off season while also having to extend Brunson and Randle (will opt out) in a year.
I think reports came out that Brunson would be willing to sign an extension this year at 4/156 but next year that would be 5/270. That's a lot of money to leave on the table.
Some of the talking heads on the radio are pushing the idea of Knicks going all in and moving Randle++ for PG but does that really make the Knicks better short term?
Randle is in his prime and maybe has some small room for further improvement.Comment

If OG walks..

That being said, as a Sixers fan, I would rather have OG than Paul George. I wouldn't love the $40M price tag, but that's still at least $10M cheaper than PG13 and allows them to either get another quality starter out of FA before you consider MLE or Room Exception. He would be a legit better defensive option over PG, shoots a good % at a high enough clip, and you don't have to run plays for him. I would think he would buy into the third role more so than PG or Maxey would.
With those bookends in place, Philadelphia is focused on filling the gap between them with an elite, two-way wing. Could that mean Paul George?
The stuff about the Sixers is interesting. Morey has made this the make or break offseason. He has to hit on whatever option he makes in an offseason where there aren't too many great available options. Either relying on old semi-washed guys to opt out, trade for a diva like Butler again, trade for someone based on talent and not fit, or not be able to outbid other teams for certain guys. The main positive about PG13 is being able to keep picks. I don't like the idea of signing non-guaranteed contracts in order to wait for the next disgruntled star. They have to make the move now. If I had to make a top 3 wants, I would say Mikal Bridges, OG, and Butler. If Nets trade Bridges, there are other teams that can easily beat Sixers offer. I would rather have Butler over PG just because he would be the alpha that the team needs and can push EmbiidComment

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
Looks like Nets might do a rebuild. I can see that. It feels like Mitchell is likely doing signing the extension. If the Rockets are still willing to offer back Brooklyn their picks in exchange for Bridges and some of the Suns picks, I can see that happeningComment

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
A bit of a "hot take" but if I'm San Antonio I'm considering making some moves this off-season. Teams are going to be adjusting for all these new cap rules, the draft looks shaky as hell..
I understand there is some merit to building slow, building organically, and all that. But I'm not playing the long, slow, maybe game with this team.. I'm not saying go all in and cash in every asset you have for superstars, but I believe Wemby is ready to help a team win right now. And I want him developing around proven players who understand how to win, not wind up stuck in some trust the process **** that surrounds him with losing habits for the next 5 years.
IDK what that looks like until we get closer to the off-season and see what other teams are doing, but I'm just not wild about hoping some 19 year old kid wants to accept a secondary role to Wemby and understand how to embrace that role and making winning plays early on.
Just off the top of my head, if they could package picks 4, 8, and maybe a future pick(s) to move back to pick 20 and get Darius Garland I'd be all over that. Of course that hinges on the Cavs locking up Mitchell, the Spurs could do a similar move for him but not at the chance of a rental.Comment

I would think about getting out of this draft completely, probably not likely, moving either Keldon or Zach, and signing some good veteran pieces (3-&-D wing and 'stopgap' starting PG). Waiting to go 'all-in' with next year's draft class and FA pool.
They can go plenty of different directions and I'd be okay with it.
