How is it a mockery before we even know if it doesn’t pan out? It’s not really different than hiring any other former player. Walton, Ham, etc. JJ obviously has a good mind for the game, not that it means it will always work out simply because of that.

His podcast actually isn’t that bad if you want actual basketball talk and not basketball gossip. A lot of his content is what actually happens on the floor and why, which is sorta refreshing at times because so much of it has become story telling.

No idea how well that translates to coaching obviously.

Unrelated to your team, but it's crazy that a guy doing a podcast (possibly) gets a job before Sam Cassell.

Are they gonna wait until he's an old man to finally give him an opportunity?

I mean it took some things happening for it to be a disaster, but in his first year it was anything but a disaster.

But my main reason in asking what was the difference between the two is that when Nash got hired, it was “Oh man, he’s jumping the line in front of qualified BLACK Coaches. They have Jacque Vaughn on the team for years and it’s an outrage he doesn’t get the job. Nash has no experience other than a consultant/player development guy with the Warriors, he won’t work out”

With JJ getting the job, “Oh well he has a podcast with Lebron and knows his stuff so he should do good” [emoji2377]

Ugh not what I wanted to wake up to as a UConn fan. Hurleys talked about the nba a lot but always as something he’d maybe want to do way down the road. Could just be doing his due diligence and getting UConn to pony up more for the extension they’ve been working on.

On the other hand it is the lakers, gonna be more money than UConn can offer for sure and his stock to demand what he wants will never be higher

                  Re: 2024 Offseason Thread

We'll see what deal (if any) happens, but seems like Raptors could be active at the draft (though those rumors come out every year).

But this year Bruce Brown could be part of the main draft day move. They'll pick up his option and immediately trade him. Trade could be dependent on draft pick rules (if a team has a 1st in 2025 but can't deal it because they don't have their own 2024 1st, they'll complete the deal after the draft).

And with the new draft format, the 31st pick is now in uncharted territory. It's not only pick #1 of the 2nd round, it's pick #1 of NIGHT 2. So teams have almost 24 hours from the end of round 1 before round 2 begins, so if there's someone who wasn't picked in round 1 that a team had enough time to think about and really want, that 31st pick could become a valuable trade chip.

The first pick of the 2nd round still won’t be valuable just because they added another day lol

Sounds like JJ will be getting the Lakers job officially today.

Guess coaching 10 y/os and having a podcast is all you need nowadays lol.

I wonder how many guys have become a head coach with zero coaching experience and zero all-star appearances. JJ is good at looking like he is thoughtful and engaged. If that's the criteria, I guess he fits the bill.

Siakam closing in on a max extension with the Pacers.

As nice as it would've been to keep him, paying him 45m or whatever it is a year is too much for a guy who just turned 30 that you'll be paying all that money until his mid 30s.

Even OG, sounds like him and Knicks might go the FA route and see what others offer him first before he decides on Knicks offer. He likely wants over 40m too.

I could see the Sixers trying to run up the price for OG if Paul George stays with the Clips. I would take OG $35M. $40M is pushing it. Ideally, $30M would be a better number for who he is, which is a high level 3 & D role player. But, I rather have OG at $35M than PG13 at $49M. With OG at $35M, that would leave Sixers with around $24M in cap space, which Sixers could use to trade for another high level role player or a couple good role players . Which would give them a good starting 4-5. Then ideally sign Oubre to a Room Exception, Batum and Lowry for the vet min, and sign a backup Center.
