Sixers sign KJ Martin to a 2 year $16M deal. It's a balloon deal since he has a very low cap hold. I doubt the 2nd year is guaranteed or barely guaranteed. It's a win-win situation for both parties. He gets way more money than he would get on the open market and if he plays well enough, he can set $8M as his floor. It's a win for the Sixers, because that's a salary that can be traded to get a piece that can help or they can salary dump him and get under the tax

I wouldn't give up 113m for anything even a chance of winning, but I definitely would take a pay cut in that scenario.

Either way, if you're the guy who helps lead the Knicks to a title AND/OR you take a pay cut which helps them win, you're a NY legend.

I might do it (easy for me to say when I don't have a chance ), but I would have to be financially set (of course) and it would be for something that nearly guarantees me a ring, like a Heat Big 3 situation.

Should have just taken the money. They aren't going to be able to get what they need to actually compete beyond where they are at, regardless.

Wow, that's a lot of money to turn down. I know his agent is the son of the team president, and that's... idunno

Let’s be real though, unless he has some career altering injury he’s not actually going to be giving up exactly that much money. The missing guaranteed amount was contingent on a 5-year deal and he signed for 4, he also has a player option on his last year. So basically after 3 years he’s going to likely opt out and sign a brand new deal that will pay him more money (assuming cap continues to increase like it has been) than he was going to make with that other deal in what would have been years 4 and 5 of that contract.

Still giving up a lot of money regardless and taking the risk on leaving that guaranteed money behind. Super cool to see him do that to try and win.

This is what people said when he signed for less than the max the first time and here we are.

That moment when you say the wrong name infront of everyone

I wonder how often that does happen. You're so used to saying a specific teams name for so many years that when you go somewhere else it became so natural to refer to your old team you let it slip out.

It gives the Knicks short term flexibility when it comes to Randle but he’s betting on himself long term. Potentially setting up to get a 5/400 later on.

Like Master said, unless it’s a Big 3 Heat situation…I ain’t taking no $100 mil paycut regardless of if I’m set or not.

Yeah, I think the Knick fans are just being hyperbolic.

No way does dude 'deserve' anything, unless he wins multiple titles before he retires or leaves. I would think Willis Reed, Clyde Frazier, Earl Monroe, or Patrick Ewing (even if he never won a title) should actually get a statue outside of MSG.

(Also, this is what it looks like when you are starved for success. Especially when you are the biggest market and second biggest 'glamour' team, but only have two rings to show for it. [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1])
