    That's a joke.

They may be nice complimentary pieces. But that's a joke.

Phil wasn't brought in for that.

You can't toe the line on rebuilding and being competitive.

Aldridge was too (though I think it's very unlikely he comes). Same with Danny Green and DeAndre Jordan I believe.

I think you can, especially since we have no pick next year so there is no incentive to suck again.

I'm not completely against trading Melo. If we shopped him and got a strong offer with some really quality assets in it I'd give it real consideration.

But I don't see how we'd be in a better situation if we just let him walk last year, or accepted some really weak sign and trade offer that was being rumored. We bottomed out anyway. We already have a ton of cap room for this offseason. And I'd rather have Melo than the offers we were rumored to be getting last summer.

I'm fine with signing some complimentary pieces, showing some improvement this year, and then next year when the cap goes up and we can spend again, pitch free agents on joining Melo, some solid role guys, and hopefully at the time will some promising young guys.

BTW..the toe the line comment was directed towards Phil.

We're going to pitch FAs to play with a 33 yr old Melo? By that time..he'll waive his NTC to go ring chase.

Point is, Phil was brought in to attract superstars.

The company line was only changed after the team got off to a horrendous start and started trading away players.

Any GM can come in and rebuild a team. But Phil is on a 5-year contract. This wasn't the plan.

Yes, I'd rather go about it this way for the long-term betterment of the franchise. I've been wanting this.

I just feel like I was sold something else. That's all.

            Danny Green = complimentary piece

Jordan = would never get a look. It's very clear now that they're going for players who fit the system. A P&R Center who can't hit a jumpshot or FT is not the kind of guy they'll spend big money on.

I don't disagree. But it was reported that the Knicks are trying to set up a meeting with him.

Reminds me of Isaiah Thomas minus the tight dribble.

I don't see Reggie Jackson at all. Jackson is not as set and crisp in his moves.

                Either way, very impressive.

I liked that video. That was before the draft, right?

I'm guessing this and game footage is mostly all the Knicks had since they didn't work him out.

                  What is he, 6'5?

6'4" in shoes. And I'm sure they scouted him a fair amount during the year.

I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look it up but was that ever said by the Knick brass? All I remember the talk of culture change and building a winner the right way. I don't remember quick-fix promises or luring superstars.

I wouldn't want the latter anyway to be honest, if you're telling me Phil came and attracted a star or two but didn't completely overhaul the franchise then we'd be screwed the minute he walked out the door. If he builds a winner from the ground up and changes the culture and leaves a blueprint for Mills & Co to follow after he retires, then we're in a much better spot long term.

Despite not being thrilled with the Porzingis pick I get why he did it. Everyone loves the Grant deal and we finally have some stashed Euros that will hopefully turn into something down the line. As I've said, outside of not getting a 1st in the Shump/JR deal I'm happy with Phil's body of work thus far. Even if Taps doesn't work out then it's okay, no GM/front office is perfect. San Antonio and OKC have misses too. All in all Phil has done well. The next few weeks will be very telling - if he reaches on some mediocre FA's or saves our cap space for next summer. Very interesting to see what he does.

I think Phil will reach out to Gasol because he knows he would be ideal in that system.

Otherwise, he likely goes after complimentary players at good prices so he has cap space for next year. Rinse & Repeat.

For the most part, the only way to find a superstar in this league is to draft him.

Which is why Phil rolled the dice on Taps.

I hope the rest of summer goes according to what you wrote. I really don't want to see Greg Monroe walk through that door.

I'd actually be surprised if we signed Monroe. I don't think it would be much of an overpay with the cap rising, just don't think he's the type of big we need. Plus there hasn't been much in the way of leaks since Phil took over, none of the trades were really rumored before they happened, and the draft went different than anyone expected, so the fact that there's been rumors for so long about Monroe tells me its not happening.

Did they ever come outright and say it? I don't think so. But paying this guy $12M/yr means what when all that was talked about was his legacy?

Either way, he needs another big time player while Porzingis develops.

Who that player is, I have no idea. But a sell job from Phil Jackson needs to hold some weight. That's the difference between him and some regular GM/Pres. That's the main reason why he's here.

Knicks emerging as frontrunners for free agent guard Arron Afflalo.

More rumors trickling in. If the price is right, fine. I hope we don't give him anywhere near what Wes Matthews will get, I'd prefer him even after the injury.
