My second concern is online play for when my friends aren't around.
R2 stunk IMO because every fight was a haymaker fest, so I hope
    they improved in this area.

Third is career mode, I don't really expect much here but hope its entertaining
    for a few days.

IMO head to head and online is where this game should shine, but I don't
have much faith in online against random opponents. I'm sure 90% of
the kiddies will use the same tactic; haymaker or whatever proves to be
    the gimmick in R3.

BTW, I sure hope they fixed the online match selection so that the kiddies can't select a stock
boxer and then quickly back up, and select thier 6 foot 9, 350 pound, Andrey the giant boxer...
That crap made me want to puke, something is wrong with people these days...
This sounds just like me except add in crazy lag online (I had the PS2 version). If all those things are improved upon my $60 will be money well spent.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3 IGN REVIEW IS UP!!!!!

The game got a pretty high score for those complaining about the rating. His only negatives were in career mode (I highly doubt he is lying about the features), and with the ease against the computer. If the game is anything like the other games EA puts out, the AI will be easy to beat within a week.

The review basically has me holding off on a purchase till I read some others. I don't play online much, so the career mode was really important to me. I can't imagine why you'd take out features, but EA's philosophy is take out a feature and add it the next year as all new.

I never could figure out why companies had such trouble with career modes. This goes for boxing and wrestling. We don't want these story modes, we want leagues, stats, and rankings. I remember the best wrestling career mode years ago was the first Smackdown for the PS2. You had a never-ending career mode chasing all different types of belts without stupid storylines. I remember sitting down with a few friends for hours on end fighting for belts.

I agree. What's so hard about making a deep career mode in boxing games? Fight Night 3, for all intents and purposes, has basically the same career mode as Evander Holyfield boxing for the Genesis. That's unbelievable.

So I guess I'll have to wait another year before I get disappointed again. By the sounds of it, Kudo is actually going backwards. I'll wait to see if IGN's review is accurate but if there are no rankings that is absolutely pathetic. For that alone Kudo should be fired immediately! A boxing game without rankings? What's next? Madden without standings?

Kudo has stated that it's 'difficult' to make a deep career mode in a boxing game.. All we get is a piss poor, & shallow rivalry mode.. The IGN reviewer made a good point..If you destroy an opponent twice, why would there be any interst in the rubber match with your rival..& shouldn't your rival, be better then the other fake fighters..I think you have 2-3 rivals doing your career..These start in the amatuer ranks, so YOU can't skip it..

what kudo should have said is it's difficult for them to make a deep career mode because the company that developed boxers road(ps1) and victorious boxer 2(ps2) both have ridiculously deep career modes with no licensed fighters. your career lasted until you retired or until your trainer didn't feel like you had anything left in the tank, this usually happened after a series of defeats. boxers road's career mode on the ps1 included every single weightclass as does vb2 .

boxers road on the ps1 and victorious boxer 2 on the ps2 are both imports have the deepest career modes of any sports title.

here is a link to a couple of in depth impressions

This is a fun twist on career mode, as stated by Gamestop:

"An interesting alternative in the Round 3 career mode is to forgo creating your own boxer, and instead choose to rebuild a legend like Bernard Hopkins or Evander Holyfield, and shape his career as you see fit."

I always wanted to do this in career mode, compared to always having to create myself...I love it. It's the equivilant of playing a career with a pro team in baseball, football, basketball and hockey games.

While career mode will most likely suck w/out ratings, I want to check this feature out.

R U sure? I don't remember b/c it is something I've been asking/looking for out of the series. Plus the quote from Gamespot quote makes it sound as if they feel it is new as well.

Can anyone else confirm it was in the game last year, 'cause I don't think it was.

No big deal if I'm wrong.

Also new to the series is the ability to watch other boxers fight during your career mode - that's something else I've been asking for. So if I'm in my career mode and know I fight "Tucker" in April, I can watch Tucker fight "Johnson" in January. That way, I scout him out before I fight him.

this was in boxers road on the ps1, it also let you watch a tape of your next opponent so you can form a strategy to beat him.....it's a nice feature

i would like to see the fn series move towards a more sim style boxing game...

how's the dreaded parry move?? this was more of a game killer to me than the haymaker was.
