Overhyped Hatton? Disagree. Hatton's performance against Tzsyu was near brilliant, but there is no doubt in my mind the years of weight fluctuations has ruined Ricky. He simply is nowhere near the same fighter (with no wars to attribute the sharp decline to) he was early in his career. He is one fight away from absolutely getting destroyed and his fights are near unwatchable now. Paulie, with the discipline, should destroy him in November.
I'm fully aware of who Mayweather Jr has fought south of 140...The biggest fights of his career were Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton...When i say "biggest fight" im taking everything into account, level of competition, media attention garnered and the pay day...I don't know what you guys consider an ATG but Mayweather's resume does not qualify in my book...An ATG to me is someone who has fought a number of great fighters of his time and has dominated for a substantial period of time...Mayweather Jr south of 140 accomplished that, north of 140 he did not, he dodged his best competition when he retired at 31 years of age...Thus Mayweather Jr's resume IMO does not stack up to ATG's like Muhammad Ali, Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, Willie Pep etc who fought anyone who had the balls to step in the ring with them...

I also disagree with your assessment of Ricky Hatton...Ricky Hatton is England's version of Arturo Gatti, an over hyped club fighter...Hatton routinely fights in a favorable venue in a weight division where there is no one for him to fight...There is no real challenge for him at 140, he has nothing more to prove...To make matter worse he has had trouble at 147 where there are much better fighters...The Kostya Tszyu fight you brought up was far from brilliant imo...That was more of a WWF wrestling match than a boxing match...That was an old Kostya Tszyu who Hatton basically wore down by out wrestling him for 11 rounds and the ref was seemingly terrified of breaking up the clinch...He would not have been able to get away with that in the states as he found out in the Mayweather Jr fight...That said by no means am i implying Hatton is a bad fighter, he is a good fighter but not deserving of the pedestal people overseas put him on and ever a threat to Mayweather Jr...

      Re: Jones-Calzaghe

I'm going to explain this one last time and I'm done with this thread...

Cotto was coming off of a win vs the contender fella, when they identified Margarito as his next opponent they should have let Antonio fight either Clottey or Williams (which ever one he chose) first. By doing this it accomplishes three things.

      1. Margarito fights a guy who can bang on that body and give him a test or even hand him a loss. If Cotto's people can get the fight on a short turnaround it works in Cotto's favor...as he'll be the fresher of the two fighters on fight night, and he'll have a mental advantage knowing his opponent is coming off a rough outing with less time to heal up & rest before he went into training camp.

      2. It gives Cotto the chance to scout his opponent just before entering the ring with him. Which is huge.

      3. Lastly, by getting the fight at a catch weight works in Cotto's favor as the drop in weight will take some of the sting off of Antonio's punches due to him carrying less bulk & focing him to drop a bit more weight in less time than he normally would have to do it.. That means he can't do as much damage to Cotto when he does land those thumping hard shots, and he may tire a bit faster then he normally would.

Now, does all this mean Cotto would have won the fight? No. But it would have put him in the best possible scenario to win....& that is what his managers should be doing, but they didn't.

Also, I was not rooting for Cotto to win, I didn't bet on Cotto. I knew Maragito was going to win for obvious reasons. I thought his people should have let the bigger fighters fight him first...soften him up a bit and then catch him on a short turnaround at a catch weight...if they wanted a solid chance to win.

De La Hoya will look like a giant in the ring vs little Manny. If i was Manny's manager I'd have him fighting Andre Burto...it's a much better matchup and the fight would be packed with action from bell to bell. But hey, wtf do I know...

...I'm done with this thread. It was cool as hell talking boxing with y'all cats though...peace.

Once again, PBF is an all-time great, just nowhere near that level north of 140. This can't be disputed.
I am a bit late on this, but he barely beat and old Oscar when PBF was in his prime. I thought it was a decent fight.

i think PBF is pretty darned good boxer, but he was smart on when he should and what fights he actually took. I wont blame him for that. Make your money anyway you can as long as its legal. In some cases, even if its not if you have no choice. hah

Wow... Just got a chance to see this fight this morning on HBO (I know...I'm late). JC really took it to RJJ. RJJ kept fighting till the end, but I was surprised to see how easily JC handled him.

Thought it was a good fight. JC won easily though....

It's kind of sad to see Roy Jones taking fights against guys who are clearly better than him nowadays.

I hope he hangs the gloves up.
