Interesting fight. Pac man showed me another level tonight. He boxed the entire fight, stayed away from the brawling. I have posted this before, but the mark of any great fighter is a jab. Pac jabbed and jabbed and jabbed. A good jab keeps your fighter at bay, off balance..making it hard to settle in and set up shots. The head movement was phenominal and the footwork even better. I have never seen DLH looks so slow. DLH could've couteracted by jabbing himself or simply feinting to draw Pac in and countering.

I think this is the 'RJJ' effect. A figther can not move up and down weights at will, especially late in their career. Going up to 160 and then down to 140+ is very difficult. Especially when a fighter does not walk the streets close to those weights. It has to catch up with you at some point.

All in all, great effort by Pac. I was impressed.

I agree. I've watched this fight over and over, and Pacquiao has become a much better boxer. You gotta give credit to Roach. I was hesitant to do so up until now. Pacquiao has become much more polished, and I would love to see how that would carry over in a JMM v Pac III, although that seems unlikely. We have to enjoy every last Pacquiao fight, he is at his peak this year, and a boxer's peak is usually followed by a very steep downhill, especially for boxers whose success is so heavily reliant on quickness (see RJJ). I think he has 2-3 more megafights left in him and then he retires to enjoy his spoils (or give them all away, whatever).

We are witnessing one of the all-time greats.

As for DLH, I badly wanted to see him get knocked out, but I do feel sorry for him. He definitely should have put on more weight, I think he overtrained. In one of the interviews, DLH said the biggest impact going back down to 147 was the loss of power, and that definitely showed. I know speed was the main factor, but DLH's naturally bigger punches were taken out of the equation. Now I kind of wish the catch weight was a bit higher so it would have been a more competitive fight.

Rumors are swirling like hurricane winds right now...

Mayweather's people have reportedly contacted Pacquiao's camp and said Mayweather would be willing to come out of retirement for this fight...

Again this is all a rumor right now so take it with a grain of salt...

That is the only fight that makes sense at this point for Floyd. Pac man could fight Hatton and earn an easy check since he wants to stay at 140 or less.

Mayweathers: Floyd wants to fight Pacquiao
by David Mayo | The Grand Rapids Press
            Tuesday December 09, 2008, 12:10 AM

GRAND RAPIDS -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to fight again and has reached out to his father about returning in a training capacity after their estrangement for most of the last eight years, family members said Monday.

Janelle Mayweather, the boxer's cousin, told family members he called her early Sunday morning -- moments after Manny Pacquiao's stirring win over Oscar De La Hoya on Saturday night in Las Vegas -- and stated his hopes to fight again and reunite with his father.

"My niece said my son told her he wanted to fight Pacquiao next, and that he wants me to train him for the fight," Mayweather Sr. said.

Bernice Mayweather said she was not surprised to hear her grandson -- a five-division champion with a 39-0 record, who last fought Dec. 8, 2007 -- wants to return to the ring.

"I always said he was going to fight again," she said. "It was just a matter of time. He was waiting until the time is right. And the time is right. I knew he was going to come out of retirement -- he did it before, didn't he?"

Janelle Mayweather disclosed her conversation with Mayweather Jr. to family members Sunday at Bernice Mayweather's home on the southeast side. She did not return a telephone message seeking comment.

Latisha Starling, another cousin of the boxer's, also was at Sunday's family get-together.

Starling said she was on the phone with Janelle Mayweather throughout the Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight, "kind of giving her play-by-play."

"Right after the fight ended and I hung up, Janelle said her phone rang again and she thought it was me. But it was Little Floyd, saying he wanted to fight Pacquiao and he had to get in touch with his father," Starling said.

Fatimah Mayweather, the boxer's sister, also told family members she received a call from her brother, hoping to discuss resuming a working relationship with Mayweather Sr.

Leonard Ellerbe, the boxer's adviser, did not return messages seeking comment.

Mayweather Sr. molded his son's career until a string of disagreements led him to resign in 2001.

He subsequently became one of the most-sought trainers in boxing, while his son went on to become mythical pound-for-pound king under the tutelage of Roger Mayweather, Mayweather Sr.'s brother.

Mayweather Jr. may want to reunite the brothers as co-trainers, a relationship tested before the fighter's 12-round decision victory over De La Hoya last year, when Mayweather Sr. began training camp as interim trainer while his brother finished an assault sentence.

Mayweather Sr. left the camp soon after his brother's release.

Starling said Janelle Mayweather, in recounting to the family her conversation with Mayweather Jr., "said she asked Little Floyd, 'What happens to Roger if you do this?' and he said, 'Oh, there are enough millions to go around, they can both be in my corner.'"

Mayweather Sr. said his son's reaction may be emotional -- Pacquiao assumed the pound-for-pound mantle after Mayweather Jr. retired, and defended it with a sensational eighth-round technical knockout of De La Hoya in Las Vegas -- but added that, regardless the motivation, any resumption of their working relationship would require contractual security.

"I will never be dumbfounded by anything in my life again unless contracts are involved," he said. "At the end of the day, he's still my son, but I'd have to hold him accountable with a contract. I didn't have a contract first time but I never dreamed it would end like that, either."

However, he said money would not be the prinicipal consideration if he entered talks with his son.

"I don't need a whole bunch of money," he said. "I'm a wealthy man. I just need enough to accommodate me for the rest of my time on this earth."

Mayweather Sr. added that he also received a telephone call from his son early Sunday morning but his phone was off and the message was cryptic.

            There's only one problem.

"He didn't leave his number," Mayweather Sr. said.

If it comes to reality, this will be the biggest real fight since Tito-ODLH because 3 of the 4 fighters involved in Lennox-Tyson/ODLH-PBF were nowhere near their prime.

I wouldn't say it so confidently but he could definitely do it...

Pacquiao is similar to Jose Luis Castillo who arguably beat Mayweather in their first fight...The fight plan Roach laid out for Oscar was similar to what Castillo did the problem was Oscar couldn't keep up...Pacquiao's got the conditioning to be in Mayweather's face for a full 12 rounds and the speed to keep up with him...He has also improved quite a bit from the technical side of things since the first JMM fight...

I expect this fight to be as close as Pacquiao/JMM fights...It all really depends on if the layoff took anything away from Floyd and how much...I fully expect this to be his excuse if he loses...

I used to think Mayweather would destroy Pac if they ever fought but now I'm not really sure. Pac's fight with DLH has me second guessing that, for sure.

How many times was someone supposed to beat Floyd and it did not happen?

Go back to the DLH fight, for brief moments during the Pac fight when DLH did jab, he was effective and kept Pac at bay and actually backed him up. What do you think a constantly jabbing, moving, and more focused fighter like Floyd will do?

I didn't even want to touch this topic, but thanks Complex. Let Floyd enjoy his retirement. I want to see Floyd fight again, but why should he keep fighting?!? People want Floyd to fight until he loses so they can say those over used words he was alway over-rated I don't know why no one saw this...LMAO! If Floyd was to come out of retirement and fight Manny...win! Then everyone is going to throw all these other name out there and say why didn't he fight Margorita,Cotto,Paul Williams and any other guy they can name.

He ISN'T RETIRED! He's like effing Brett Favre! The rumours are the HIS people are trying to contact Pac's.

Normally I'd agree with you, but not in pbf's case since he is certainly not retired. It's the crying wolf syndrome, you can't retire a million times. You can't put any stock into anything pbf says since, he'll just go contradict himself by fighting AGAIN and retiring AGAIN.

This fight should happen, whoever wins loses, doesn't matter - this fight should happen.

^ That is hilarious!! How brief were these moments where DLH kept Pac at bay?? I watched the fight 5 times, i saw no such thing. DLH should have been able to do that but wasn't able to.

PBF is much better than DLH but theres no reason to believe Manny couldn't win the fight, nobody predicted Pac to destroy DLH.

What is your post trying to say, That Pacquiao vs Mayweather shouldn't happen???!!
