    Re: Boxing Off-Topic

With regard to the actual fight, I was a little disappointed. It seemed both guys were conservative to some degree, and there were only isolated moments of fireworks, mostly in the last 2-3 rounds. Otherwise, it was a well-contested, but not particularly thrilling affair.

The fight also illustrated a key weakness of Canelo's that has been there pretty much his whole career, which is that he only fights in spurts. He's only good for about 60-90 seconds of solid fighting per round, and then the rest of the time he's gassed and then just relies on his defense or the leans on the ropes. I thought he'd be more penalized for that against better opponents (like tonight) but that didn't turn out to be the case. Mostly because of Adelaide Byrd.

I understand, but my bias based on what I've read & heard about the sport over the years is that the amount of graft and corruption in the sport, from the lowest all the way up through the highest levels, is astonishing and beyond the belief of most normal people. It's essentially a criminal enterprise masquerading as a legitimate sport. That it occasionally produces moments of competitive nirvana is largely accidental.

He kinda fights nonchalantly like it is a sparring match or an exhibition at times.

Anyway, bet google trends will show a huge spike on searches for "Adelaid Byrd" tonight and tomorrow lol

The business of boxing is just trash now.

It's becoming as scripted as the WWE.

Hate to say you shouldn't have expected this but this actually isn't a real surprise to anyone in general.

It's always been like this. I think the only difference is people are just more aware of it now. It's a filthy business.

Yeah but its worse now because the sport is on life support with little draw to it.

Teddy Atlas telling it like it is on ESPN. When asked what his impression of the fight was, his answer: "Corruption".

                  Gotta love ol' Teddy.

In an action-packed classic, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin fought to a draw with wildly different scores from the judges -- including a 118-110 score for Alvarez -- in their middleweight title bout Saturday night.

I knew i should of just went to bed lol Once i heard the first judge's score i already knew they were setting up a rematch to make more money. I think im done wasting time with boxing unless a new fight night game releases.

It was definitely a good fight, but GGG couldn't seal the deal in the middle rounds when he had every opportunity to do so. How many times did Canelo buzz along the ropes in retreat and how many times did Golovkin fail to deliver primo blows as he leveraged an advantage while finding his opponent on the ropes?

As I did with Mattheyse and Thurman I have to adjust GGG's power rating a bit.

I agree w/ GGG not taking the initiative more in the middle rounds, but he still decisively won them. I don't think you can give a round to a guy that throws 3-4 punches and then spends the rest of the time retreating on the ropes while the other guy continues to press you.

I think the fight was a-ight. Sort of a 10/10 on the "meh" scale.

                          Re: Boxing Off-Topic

                          I had Canelo winning rounds 1, 3, 10,11 & 12.
But to be honest, I thought round 12 could have been scored a draw as Alvarez won the first half of the round with GGG winning the second half.
But overall, GGG was the aggressor and landed more head shots.
                          115-113 seemed reasonable.

The 118-110 left a very sour taste in my mouth.
I refuse to give anyone involved with the rematch another cent of my money.

CBS Sports a little wide the other way.

They just finessed people and want even more of their money.

                              That's the crazy thing
