Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Don't know. Callum will be tied up in the World Boxing Super Series at least for one bout. The series starts today with Usyk VS Huck (cruiserweight) and continues for eight consecutive weeks but ultimately becomes one of my biggest boxing disappointments because no American TV deal could be negotiated.
As for last night's bout, I thought Benavidez won fairly comfortably even given the knockdown he suffered in the last round (he wasn't hurt), but one judge had him losing 116-111 (that judge must have had Gavril at 10-1). Despite that score, the favorite got a 117-111, 116-111, 111-116 majority decision and avoided a huge upset.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I saw him on the fight schedule but didn't realize he was rematching the guy that allegedly beat him last time out. It was a big upset but the shock got kind of tamped down by Golovkin-Jacobs that same night. I'll definitely tune in.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Chocolatito got absolutely destroyed tonight. Amazing that less than a year ago Gonzalez was considered to be the #1 PFP fighter in the world and possibly an all-time great.
I'm sure HBO will all over Rungvisai now.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
In other boxing news, looks like Adrien Broner finally got himself a KO win.
Unfortunately, it was on the streets of Vegas and appears he sucker-punched a random dude for no reason at all.
"The Problem" is doing his best to live up to his monicker.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
No defense by Chocolitito to prevent the final KO punch.
EDIT: Follow the clip from about 21 seconds on as it goes slo-mo. It looks like he closed his eyes before the punch came in. I realize he was already hurt but he was struggling the entire fight.
So when does Rungvisai fight the Japenese legend (Inoue)?Last edited by JayBee74; 09-16-2017, 01:50 AM.Comment

On a only very-slightly related note, there was an old PC boxing game called "ABC Wide World of Sports Boxing" (I think it was also released as "TV Sports Boxing", for some bizarre reason) which came out in the early 1990's, which to this day remains the most-played boxing game ever in my life. My buddies and I played that thing to death on our parents' old 386-era PC's. Anyway, I always used to complain that when previously unstoppable juggernauts (like Killer Knauer or Big Jer Allnite, for your aficionados) fell off, they'd go over the cliff seemingly overnight, in 1 fight. For example, you wouldn't be able to even hang with them without getting KO'd in 2-3 rounds, but then suddenly you would beat the living daylights out of them like they were Glass Joe all of a sudden if you caught them at the right moment of their career decline.
The point of all this is that I used to complain bitterly that the game was really unrealistic and stupid in that regard, but as I get older, I'm starting to realize that's not actually all that far off from how many boxer's actual career trajectories go. Every time I see something like I saw last night, or something like Sergio Martinez suddenly getting old and feeble before our very eyes over the course of 1 bout, for whatever reason my mind always goes back to that game.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
He actually becomes somewhat interesting if he continues to mix it up with the 115 guys. Who wouldn't want to see him fight Inoue? On the other hand who thinks he could beat Inoue, which was a given one year ago?Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I was pretty much inoculated from being stunned by the way Chocolitito was handily dealt with for the first three rounds. I kind of saw it coming. He was physically and mentally getting a medium sized beating.

He's past his prime as an elite pound-for-pound fighter. Sor Rungvisai proved that.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment
