There is no money in a Paulie fight no matter how bad Paulie wants it. He isnt known to people other than hardcore boxing fans. Most MMA fans enjoyed the fight but arent interested in paying for another Conor boxing fight. They want Conor v. Ferguson or Conor v. Diaz. The draw of the Mayweather fight was to see what Conor looks like in a boxing fight. Now that we've seen it, there is no big rush to see him again in a ring.

Boxing doesnt need a "shot in the arm" though. Canelo/GGG will do well. ESPN just committed long term to Top Rank boxing and Arum is putting big fights there.

Agreed, and that is why the idea of tune up fights to give Conor experience before fighting Floyd defeated the purpose of the match.

Conor's foray into boxing should be a one time deal.

I actually think the outlook for boxing looks better than it did a couple of years ago, what with fights on ESPN and no clear cut top guy but many who can rise to claim it. Looks much better than it did in the aftermath of Floyd/Manny for sure.

EDIT: I didn't realize Gervonta Davis forfeited his IBF title because he didn't make weight. Is 135 next?

When he was with Wolf, he was a very good fighter. But his chin got exposed.

But I also think Kirkland was a guy who hid behind his weight-gain abilities.
He should have been fighting at 160, but he knew guys hit a lot harder up there, and his power didn't carry as well.

That's why I think GGG is going to win this going away in the later rounds as Alvarez hid at 154 for way too long.
And I am predicting a knockdown and stoppage.

given conor's impressive showing, and apparently praise from mike tyson who graded him an A for his performance, this could have given boxing a much needed shot in the arm it needed and conor could venture over more in the future if he makes more money boxing. he could use this as leverage too. this could actually help both sports. bring over some MMA fans to boxing and some boxing fans to UFC to watch conor fight in the future. there could be some interest in fighting paulie now. conor knows exactly why he lost to floyd if you saw his interview after the fight. he can correct some critical errors he made for his next bout. paulie can settle his score with conor in an official fight as well. if they set the bout for 10 rounds, that would work much more in conor's favor.

McGregor would make far more in his next MMA fight than in a bout against Malignaggi.

Mayweather is one of the world's most recognizable athletes. Malignaggi is known only to hardcore fight fans. And while Paulie commands fight fans' respect for making the most of his skills, no one has a ticket to Canastota punched for Malignaggi.

McGregor-Malignaggi wouldn't sell more than 1 million PPVs.

i guess we'll never know how conor would have fared with some tuneup fights, especially going 12 rounds. and i would have never dreamed conor-floyd would have more action than floyd-manny. looks good for boxing right now.

Maybe, maybe not. The McGregor brand is huge in MMA circles, and he also has crossed over into pop culture. His solid performance last Saturday only increased curiosity about his boxing skills.

I still think any McGregor boxing match against a credible opponent, if priced at $69.99 or less for HD, would collect between 750,000 and 1 million buys. Plus Paulie and McGregor appear to have a legitimate beef, and Paulie can sell fights quite well.

Exactly. I read that total yesterday, according to Dana White, and figured a McGregor-Malignaggi match maybe could do one-sixth of those numbers if promoted properly.

EA is going to make a new fight night. I talked with someone at EA today they told me that they have heard the massive demand for a new fight night and are going to make one.

They havent offically started developing it yet, but they are gonna make one for sure and it will be pretty soon is what i was told.

Maybe. The only issue is that Dana could do 1.5 or better with a Diaz or LHW title defense. He wouldnt have to do half of the promotion it would take to promote a Paulie fight.
