Agreed. It's just too much of a weight range. And as JB pointed out, LHW is doing very well right now.

There's always going to be divisions that kind of suck. I don't follow boxing as closely as I once did, but I don't know if I could name anyone at 140. And there are certain classes that are clearly jumping points to bigger divisions. Eg 154.

European fans probably could name a number of Cruiserweights considering most of the top challengers are from overseas.
I think Cruiser is one of those necessary evils. But if you add a 200-225 HW division, it would make for another good platform weight class that prepared fighters before moving up.

I see your point, fellas. But the last thing boxing needs is another weight class with four more recognized belts.

So status quo probably is the best.

Ugas looked huge, though. Looked like he was easily 160+ by fight time.

On a different note, after watching the Mansour-Ajagba fight, I think boxing should adopt a Super Heavyweight division. Maybe make Heavyweight have a 225 lb weight limit.
I think it would actually be a highly entertaining division too.

I know I'm against all these middling weight classes, but IMO, this one makes sense.
There's no way guys built like Mansour can compete against some of these 6'5"+, 250lb+ monsters.
I agree I thought Ugas did enough to win and landed the cleaner shots throughout..I really thought the last round pulled him out as well..I am not feeling this Shawn Porter he looks like this fame is getting to his head and he has gone from being really humble to sort of arrogant..I do like that he tried another style of fighting but when he moves he just isn't landing enough clean punches to win these rounds..the few times when he settled down and exchanged with Ugas he fared alot better..He will give anyone a close fight because of his style..Ok as far as the weight divisions I think guys built like Mansour can and have absolutely been successful against bigger heavyweights..The problem with Mansour is that he was old slow and had no defense at all..Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier, etc had the same build but had boxing skills that enabled them to get inside bigger heavyweights..Matter of fact Mansour was bigger than both of them..The heavyweight division has always had bigger heavyweights who got beat by smaller heavyweights..Riddick Bowe vs Holyfield was an example and Holyfied was 205 lbs.. In the end it comes down to boxing skill and strategies..

That would be my choice but not because of the additional weight class with the IBF IBO WBA WBO multiplier factor. The heavyweight championship of the world still has luster and I wonder if 2 "HEAVY" titles takes away from both of them?

Multiple "world champions" definitely hurt the sport, especially among casual fans. Throw in "interim," "diamond" and "intercontinental" belts, and the sanctioning bodies become a total farce.

Remember when a dead man moved UP in the rankings?
These organizations are bottom feeders who care nothing for the sport or the athletes that sweat and bleed for it.

So I see there is no PPV discount with Fox's first offering.

Damn. That is really high. Do you know how many fights are being televised on the card? ESPN lists like 10 or so on their schedule.

It would have been madness for Porter to try and bull his way inside Ugas, who had a huge height and reach advantage. Ugas could have used his jab all night to repulse Porter's advances if Porter decided to use his usual, inside "junkyard dog" strategy.

I think it was smart for Porter and his dad to decide to use more boxing, moving in and out. But the problem is, and we saw it Saturday, Shawn Porter isn't that good at that style. So he will struggle against any big welterweight.

The most recent fights of Porter and Thurman prove that Haymon's poster boys at 147 aren't elite. They're both B+-level fighters behind the A-level of Crawford, Spence and Mikey Garcia at that weight class.

I'd love to see Porter or Thurman against Pacquiao. That's a very fun, competitive fight against guys with similar skills at this point of their respective careers.

And I definitely want to see Ugas again. A bit less clowning and a bit more work, and he's a tough out for anyone at 147.
I had the fight barely for Ugas but he might not have been busy enough often enough to get the close rounds. I would disagree that Porter's normal 'brawling' style wouldn't have worked in this fight, especially since it didn't appear Ugas had a jab capable of keeping Porter at bay, the power to hurt him or the in-fighting skills to brawl over the long-haul. But at the end of the bout, Porter got the win so I suppose that's all that matters.

I do have to agree that Haymon's 147 stable is a cut below the top of the division, but obviously in boxing that doesn't really matter, so long as you can just manage opponents appropriately.

I can't help but think this is the type of fight that used to be on HBO Championship Boxing back in its heyday. It's a huge fight for boxing fans, but the name recognition of these guys to casual people off the street is not significant.

                          Not exactly an eye-popping undercard.

When is the last boxing PPV that charged less than $70 for HD? I can't recall one.

I'll find a stream on Periscope or wait until there's a rip on YouTube Sunday morning or for the Showtime rebroadcast next weekend.

Enough is enough with these PPV cards that don't merit PPV, especially when I'm already spending money for cable, DAZN and ESPN+. Frankly, I hope some of these PPV cards flop financially so promoters and networks realize you can soak fans only so much.

This is exactly whats wrong with boxing..I have always said from the start this is one big money grab..I guarantee they are banking on Garcias fans buying the fight..The undercard is atrocious ...This is one fight I would have showcased on national TV for the mainstream or had a lower pricepoint to introduce their PPV product..
