    Re: Boxing Off-Topic

These were some pretty good fights! I only saw the second half of the broner fight, but he looked sharp. He's added the jab to the body in the mix, which is an underrated tool. Broner really wasn't that bad. I know some people will get their panties in a bunch about the post fight interview, but he didn't say anything wrong, people just already don't like him because of his reputation.

I was really impressed with Thurman against guerrero. Gotta give guerrero props, he's tough as nails, and thought he might be done after that brutal knockdown. Thruman looked really sharp, but he did seem tired later on. Guerrero is no bum though, and he schooled him and beat him up. Pretty good showing for boxing tonight.

Yeah, I would like to see Thurman continue to improve his cardio. He starts fast looking for the KO which as a fight fan I love. He seems to tire, I know that he threw a lot trying to end the fight after the KD, but even after taking the next round off he never seemed quite the same. If that is the only knock on the guy then he is clearly doing something right. Good night for boxing on network TV.

I give Guerrero credit for taking the fight and taking the punches, but he still got beat pretty bad. I thought he was gone in the knockdown round. Thurman looked frustrated at the end of that round when Guerrero survived.

As for John Molina...just SHUT-UP! Complaining about Broner not exchanging with you? At times it seemed like you were apprehensive to exchange with him. Adrian stung you a few times.

Thurman showed everyone how to fight a southpaw. impressed me very much that the southpaw stance didn't seem to bother him. especially against an experienced fighter like Guerrero

I'll be honest. The Broner fight did nothing for me. He seems like a man w/o a country. Too big and w/o a lot of prospects at a lower weight. His power hasn't transitioned to 147 and he is vulnerable. He's not the next Floyd and isn't a PPV draw.

He sucks as a freestyle Rapper (he was on wildnout). Is just awful post-fight. Not sure what's next for him.

I know Garcia and Peterson are fighting at a 143 catchweight, so one or both of them are possible opponents for Adrian. Throw in Matthysse, and Terence Crawford and you have some opponents for him sub-147. The "Problem" is.., can he beat any of these guys?

I couldn't possibly agree more with everything you said. My thoughts on Broner exactly. No fights at junior welterweight, and can't hang with the elite at 147 (can you imagine him in the ring with Thurman?....). He wants to be a star, he keeps telling us he is, but at the end of the day...he's a good lightweight/junior welterweight. Which brings us to:

To me, the answer is a pretty clear "no". Matthysse is the 140-lb version of Maidana, with possibly better power. Garcia pretty decisively beat Matthysse (although I'd love to see a rematch, since that bad cut on Lucas changed the fight pretty dramatically). Terence Crawford might be the best in the weight class. Maybe he's got a shot at Peterson, but even then...I wouldn't feel that great about his chances.

Off-topic a little, but did I read the tale of the tape wrong on NBC broadcast of the Molina-Broner fight, or did Broner officially weigh-in at 141? Was this a catch-weight fight, or what? I mean, it doesn't matter at all, but I just thought it was weird that he didn't officially make weight (if that pre-fight graphic was accurate).

The NBC broadcast was pretty good in my opinion and really shows they are committed and invested in it.

Bringing in big commentators and using the bullet-cam-technique, robo-cams it I was really impressed and happy to see, it wasn't a half-ditched effort and kind of dipping the toe in the water, they seem to have just dove right in and are really going for it.

                  Cool to see.

Neither will go to 140 or 135 for Broner and at 147 Peterson has the pop to KO Broner IMHO. Matthysse destroyed Peterson and was winning early vs Garcia.

The top sub 147 fight for Broner is Crawford and a TBH I think Broner would have to beat Gamboa before he could get a whif of Crawford. Not an easy day at the office for Broner

I was mixed on the NBC broadcast, to be honest. I mean, all in all a nice presentation, but they are hampered by the need for commercials between rounds (I never realized how much information is conveyed between rounds on HBO/Showtime, but punch replays to see what really landed and corner instructions are huge parts of boxing), although they limited them to the extent they could on broadcast TV. I like that they brought in big names like Michaels and company, but they will really have to upgrade Marv Albert and Sugar Ray...I know Marv is like an institution at this point, but his calling of the action was pretty poor IMO. Either that or he just had no chemistry with Sugar Ray whatsoever. But those two together are not a good team. They honestly should just let Steve Farhood take the analyst seat and if they want to keep Leonard, have him be the 3rd guy. Just let Steve Smoger take over the scoring duties, since he was minimal value-added IMO.

Although, it's just the first broadcast, so maybe that's being too critical. Have to give them a chance after all.

It's obvious that Matthysse, Peterson, and Garcia aren't going down to 135, but Provodnikov and Matthysse are still 140 guys, and Crawford has moved up to 140. Gamboa is irrelevant to Broner, unless Adrian decides to go back to lightweight, which doesn't seem to be an option. If Garcia is fighting Peterson at a 143 catchweight, why couldn't Broner fight either of them at that same weight?

I think broner matthysee is a 50/50 fight honestly, i don't get why people think matthysee will just destroy broner. He's not THAT big. It would be an interesting fight.

Broner actually has a pretty good chin, but despite trying to emulate Floyd his defense is pretty bad. Against Lucas his porous defense could be a very bad thing. Not to mention his power hasn't translated great since moving up either.

Still can't understand why Broner went beyond the 135 pound limit (only two fights after going up from 130) that quickly. Three years ago he was a super featherweight.

His eating and partying habits might be the reason. I'm just guessing.

Broner called out khan, and khan responded saying "let's make it happen". That's an interesting fight. I'd watch that, i think khans style could be harder for broner than matthysee though.
