The last one I can remember with certainty was Randall Tex Cobb vs. Larry Holmes Friday Night on ABC in 1982. I was always fascinated by boxing even when I was just a little tyke. I would always watch it when it was on even though my dad was never a boxing fan. Not sure where I picked up the love of the sport, but anyway, I found a bunch of friends at school who also liked boxing and had a sleepover to watch the fight and play intellivision boxing until the wee hours of the morning.

When my friends and I get together(although its getting rare these days) we still laugh about our childhood boxing escapades. One moment in particular. We had a group of friends that would box and we'd pick a date and actually kind of train for it. We had some rings set up in back yards other in the basement, etc. The fights occurred when the parents were away. A lot of outdoor matches in the summertime with groups of neighborhood kids watching.

We didn't have real gloves. We had 2 sets of oversized deerskin mittens that we stuffed with knee high striped athletic socks. Anyway, so I'm fighting my buddy, pretty decent crowd of about 20 people including some girls so we didn't want to lose obviously.

**Cow Bell Rings** round 1, scheduled for 12 3 minute rounds.. We come out to the middle of the ring bobbing and weaving a little bit. I throw a jab and then all hell breaks loose. He starts throwing these wild windmills like the Tasmanian Devil and I panicked and started windmilling back. Toe to toe center of the ring the crowd is roaring the deerskin is flying. The kid with the stop watch gets so into the fight that he forgets to watch the time. Finally gasping for air we both break apart and scream how much time is left. We hear "oops" ***Cowbell clank***. For 7 minutes and 22 seconds we exchanged punches in the middle of the ring with no one going down. Would have loved to see the compubox stats on that.

After that we made some more rules 3 pairs of socks must be stuffed in the gloves, timekeeper can't be a judge, windmilling prohibited. Over time we actually became pretty decent, had some good legit fights and my buddies dad bought us some everlast gear once he saw what we were doing.

    Good times.

Yeah, Cosell's last fight, because of the "brutal mismatch".

It'd be nice if Wilder wasn't fighting a bum on NBC. Maybe next fight.

I think Povetkin is next. That should be a good test for him.

This is one of the most amusing anecdotes I've heard in a long time. Gotta love the stupid stuff we did as kids...hard to believe any of us made it to adulthood (chronologically, anyway...).

You guys would have fit right in to the Mayweather training camps...at least if the 24-7's are to be believed. I am laughing to myself about how exhausted you guys must have been by the time someone finally looked over and asked how much time was left...

edit: also, the "rule" specifying 3 pairs of socks per mitten is simultaneously totally logical and completely ridiculous. Although, frankly, that's probably more regulation than a typical sanctioned boxing match at the time...

Looks like the heavyweight division is actually getting kinda interesting actually. And i'm not even really into heavyweights like that, but it's showing some potential. What ever happened to seth mitchell?

Chris Arreola. I know you realize the result of that fight, but I guess it was enough to dissuade Seth from jumping back right away....that was over two years ago.

Whoa when did you become a gamechanger? Congrats. I normally post on tapatalk so I don't notice the colored titles. Hopefully you have a lot of input in making EA UFC 2 closer to what it should be.

Thanks man. About a week ago. We have a big event scheduled for mid October where I'm going to go to the studio for a couple of days.

That Frenchman has a helluva chin! think Wilder could have stopped him sooner if he would have went to the body more often early in the fight

Yeah, no doubt about the chin.

Some good fights, i watched the broner and matthysee fight. Broner fight was solid, and he looked sharp(it shouldn't of been for a title, but otherwise, it was a good fight). I wouldn't mind seeing him mix it up with some of the guys at 140. Postol really surprised me ,i was not expecting him to KO matthysee, but damn he did. And lucas has a chin too, that was an good fight. Postol could give some people problems with his height and reach, i'd love to see him and crawford fight.
