    Re: Boxing Off-Topic

That's because Golden Boy and DLH, can't afford to have their only PPV draw take another L on a PPV. The problem for both sides neither of these guys have a lot of other options. At least with Floyd and Manny there were tons of names at 147 that they could beat on while avoiding each other for a decade. No such options so eventually if they want to make any real money they are gonna have to "get it on".

I actually kinda hope Khan pulls off the upset, for no other reason that I am tired of the lies from Alvarez and DLH about the GGG fight.

That's a shame you missed out on some great fighters like Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, Mayweather, Pernell Whitaker, Manny, Felix Trinidad, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia and a bunch more. Not much has been happening in the heavyweight division for about 10-12 years.

yeah, not much action in HW. just thhe Klitchko's dominated the hw-divison for a decade. But it's coming back.... Deontay Wilder, Antony Joshua, Shannon Briggs, Tyson Fury and ofc still Wlad wants back his titles.

          I
Yeah, but if you weren't a Floyd or Manny fan, that wasn't too exciting. On the flip side there were/are a heck of a lot of Floyd/Manny fans.

I'd like to see it too, but I don't think Khan's chin will allow him any opportunity. I'm surprised he's only a 7-2 dog.

Too many good fighters past and present in the lower weights. You would have missed out on Pryor-Arguello 1 & 2 and Leonard-Hearns 1, three of the greatest fights I've ever seen.

Ortiz too...Has anybody seen the guy from New Zealand...Joseph Parker?

Now if only they'd fight each other. (besides Wlad-Fury)

Had no idea that Alvarez and Triple-G sparred back in 2011.

Sounds like Saul didn't do so badly in the first 2 rounds.
But it also sounds like his best shots didn't really affect GGG all that much either:

I have to think that Alvarez remembers that day and is the primary reason he wants no part of GGG until his age catches up to him.

This fight has to be made after the Khan fight. If it doesn't, then I would hope all the fans and writers within the boxing world start coming down hard on Alvarez and DLH.

I had read something about their sparring a couple or so years ago. I might have even posted something here.

At the end of Saturday's GGG fight Jim Lampley just lobbed up the possibility of Gennady fighting Ring #3 Super Middleweight Gilberto Ramirez who Roy Jones quickly dismissed as not being ready with Lampley smiling in agreement.

Roy Jone's endorsement of relative unknown Morgan Fitch as a suitable opponent for Golovkin hasn't generated much online buzz.

just find it interesting that canelo probably wasn't ready for a floyd megafight, but jumped at the chance to face him. now with ggg, it's a different story....

Cotto, like Canelo, says it won't happen at 160. I'm starting to think they'd both make another excuse if it was at 155.

Against Floyd, Alvarez was only at risk of being schooled. Against GGG it's a different ballgame.

Alvarez continues to spout lies about how he's not truly a full-sized MW yet and so many of his fans eat it up.
The fact is they're the same height and Alvarez is heavier than Golovkin when he steps in the ring.

Stop being a coward and fight the champ already. If you're scared, then go back down to 154 so the real champ can take your belt too.
If anything, Alvarez is the bigger than GGG on any given fight night (as you pointed out).

I've made this complaint before, but boxing is basically a game of who is the best fighter who can lose/gain the most weight in a 24-hour period without significant damage to their well-being/energy level. The real skill involved is losing and gaining weight, not so much boxing ability...

Weigh-ins should be an hour before the fight. Initially, guys will be missing weight left and right, but eventually, everyone will have to fight at their true ring weight. It will "right-size" all the divisions so that boxing skill, not simply being the bigger man in the ring, will take precedence.

i really don't understand 17 weight classes....feels fully bloated. A 70kg boxer can easily fight an 80kg boxer....and not every kg is on the important part, the torso. With less weight classes even a 2nd/3rd rank is good.

More weight divisions, more "world title" sanctioning fees.

I'm pretty sure my sister is the #2 contender on some ridiculous sanctioning body's list somewhere out there....

agree with you on both accounts, jaybee....ggg should call their bluff and agree to 155. yep, canelo was in no danger and it was nice payday.

He's not going to do it and he shouldn't. His trainer , Abel Sanchez, said as much only a few days ago.

It is Golovkin who is the mandatory challenger to Alvarez's 160 WBC belt and he can't be forced to fight at anything less then that. Will the WBC enforce their rules and strip her of the belt? We will see.
