Ufc undisputed series turn based grappling was ridiculous. A race to see who can transition 3 times to improve position. No thank you. I’d rather improve position on merit alone not because the game goes...” oh your opponent blocked two transitions the next ones free buddy”...Just stop it. This grappling system is much better when it comes to transitions.

You had to mix it up and stay unpredictable. You couldn't just spam transitions again a skilled opponent.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
I would never go back to turn based. Simultaneous grappling is much more realistic. Just add the stuff you could do in UD3's grappling in EA UFC. Let me sway ground strikes, make the GnP look and feel more powerful and not like guys are pulling their punches, give us a posture system like UD3 where we can posture up or stay low to control the guy better once we break their initial posture control, more ground & cage positions and transitions, more sub reversals, rocked states on the ground and clinch, more fluid clinch locomotion, interactive tko states, ect. Add those things to the current system and we'd be golden imo.Last edited by WarMMA; 05-10-2018, 12:38 PM.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
I very much prefer EA UFC 3's grappling, over UD 3, but I think it's unfair to call UD 3's system turn based. People could actually exchange subtransitions in that game. It wasn't as deep or polished as EA UFC 3, but it wasn't turn-based, either.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
Good point regarding UD3 there. The thing that bothers many about simultaneous transitions is that it has to involve filling a meter somewhere, whether hidden or not, to decide who will win out.Comment

Hmm....when I think back on it, you are right. It's really the players that made it more of a turn based thing. But I wouldn't wanna go back to that style of grappling because it wasn't full simultaneous grappling either.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
Just get rid of the transition fake spam... I 100% feel like transitions fakes are probably real but not 10 of them in one sequence you know? Put stamina tax on transition fakes to make it a limit. Make takedowns easier to achieve put some power on the ground and pound and im sure the ufc team can easily rework the grappling system this game is good on the feet and if they can somehow make a ground game equal to the stand up theyre doing something right.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
It was so much deeper than that though. For example, if I took you down and you tried to spam transitions to get up over and over, I would have you reversed and pass your guard in a heartbeat.

We need EA mma choke sub system for all subs.
Ud3s plethora of grappling positions, wrestling and clinch included.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
I know all the ins and outs of the ground in Undisputed. I liked the wrestling and ground and pound better in that series but as far as transitions are concerned that’s a hell no. EA has the better system by far.

UD3 to suggest that one could simply “spam transitions”. A skilled player would
Know this is not true, and that this would be easy to get a reversal from.
And yeah isn’t filling a meter fun lol.Comment

Here’s an old thread with info and a video showing some of the Undisputed 3 grappling:

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
I don't really have that much of an experience with UFC Undisputed 3's grappling, but it does look more fluid and responsive and action packed than EA UFC 2/3.
With that said, 1 of my biggest issue with EA UFC's 2/3 grappling, is not just the way it feels because it's taking away control of the player, but also because it isn't much of a skill designed aspect of the game.
Once you figure out the mechanics, it's about patience and timing a predictable, yet unable to react to, long-lasting transition.
All in all, you have stats determining wether someone will dominate the ground game and in contrast, when you are on the stand-up department, regardless if you have a highly skilled striker or not, you still have to work and grind hard to dominate the stand-up game. Ground game, stats does the job of the player, players are mostly inputting commands and they watch as their fighter grapples and plays out long animations on their own, without breaking a sweat.
With EA UFC's 3 I see that flaw starting to make it's way on the Stand-Up as well and we are slowly losing control over our fighters and the game feels as if it's headed more towards inputting a command that your fighter will follow and play a long lasting pre-deterministic animation that will get the work done on it's own, giving you little to no control over the outcome in the meantime that long animation plays out.
The main reason is because it's much harder to enter into grappling situations and maintain them. That doesn't mean you won't have trouble if you're taken down by GSP as Wonderboy, but if GSP had no striking stats it would be significantly easier to beat him.Comment

At least now there is a ton of stuff you have to learn to compete with me on the ground...not that I get to use it all that much woth how easy it is to get out of clinch and deny takedowns. I like this system better and I feel like you guys don’t remember what it was like online in Undisputed 3 (when you could actually play online that is).
Ea expands on at least double the positions they have now and we would be doing pretty good (ufc 4). Then take the left stick and make it so that is how you would apply weight on your opponent when on top. Guard for example if you wanted to keep your opponents back on the mat and apply pressure you’d hold down. Side control top your body on screen is to the right then you would hold right to apply pressure. Now if you were on the bottom it would be how you shift your weight. Guard bottom you would shift your weight and balance points by doing the same thing but in reverse. So say I want to shift my balance point to right in full guard bottom I’d hold right.
The ideal would be able to constantly fight this battle of maintains control of body position. How easy it is to transition would be based on who has the upper hand in this balancing game. This would be a very fluid thing where you could constantly change where the weight and balance points go. Frames of transitions (still done with the right stick) would be adjusted according to how balanced/ unbalanced your opponent is.
All the ground and pound strikes need to be reanimated and faster. These strikes should be able to be feinted to make armtraps harder.
Rework the clinch from the ground up. I want to be able to chain wrestle from there and it just needs to be much more dynamic.
Grapplers need love and I’ve always favored grappling in mma games because people don’t want to take the time to learn it. I think we get these changes in the next game and we would have one hell of a game on our hands.Comment

Re: turn based or ea ufc grappling poll
Oh because punch flicking was so great.... are you serious? I mean yeah I could reverse you and you could reverse me all day in that game. How does that resemble mma at all? The skill level it took to be good on the ground was not high at all.

I really, really like your idea about shifting the weight with the left stick tho and having transitions depend on that. That could be something we could all be happy with potentially. Along with tons of new positions, clinch reworked, etc.
I would like that idea + circling the right stick to actually transition (without meters).Comment
