      Re: OS MMA Random Thread

Bendo quotes. This Reebok deal has been terrible.

Do you feel like Bellator really made things personal for you?

BH: “For sure, and that was the other great thing about Bellator, they were super open and gracious enough to construct our contract in a different way. In the UFC, it’s ‘this is our contract, and this is how it is’ and there’s no wiggle room or individuality there. Bellator was super awesome being open to different ideas and things in a contract.”

Is that in terms of payment options, such as gate percentages, or just activities outside the cage?

BH: “Both sides, but they were open to it. UFC’s just not open to it. ‘Nope, we don’t talk about that, we don’t discuss it.’ You can’t even talk about? What do you mean? We can’t even discuss it at all? So that was kind of odd to me, you know? I think the key to all relationships, whoever they are, is communication and having open communication. With Bellator, everything was open and transparent, and you’ve got to love that.”

How much did the UFC’s exclusive deal with Reebok factor into your decision to leave?

BH: “That made a huge, huge impact on the deal. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t play into the deal. Reebok deal, we’ll see how it plays out, it’s playing out to mediocre fanfare so far. For me, I’m one of the fighters who lost out on a lot of money, a lot of money, when the rumors of the Reebok deal came out, and when it went into effect, I lost out on a lot of money. Being told I have to wear this, then being compensated with a few pennies, I’m not a big fan of. Being told I have to do this and being compensated with nothing, I’m not a big fan of. I’m not an employee, I’m an independent contractor, and if you’re an independent contractor, you don’t have to do certain things. So being told what to wear, you have to wear this, you have to do this, you have to dance like this for us, dance like that for us, I wasn’t a big fan of that.

So again, that’s something Bellator brought to the table that UFC can’t, you’re not allowed. I was in the top tier, you can look it up in public records, the top tier for the Reebok deal is $20,000, so if I were to fight four times in a year at $20,000 is $80,000 in sponsorship money. So for a whole year I get 80K for wearing Reebok and that would’ve been over $100,000 I would’ve lost in that one year from the Reebok deal.”

Sucks for Sterling that he really had nowhere to go. He's still probably going to making less then Sage despite being 100x the fighter.

Where did you hear that? On Ariel, he said he had offers from WSOF and Bellator. Bellator is only looking for big named talent but he hinted in a few interviews that the WSOF offer was really good.

I don't know what really good is, but at his weight, no one is really paying any fighters. Bellator wants names and he really isn't a big name yet, so I agree they probably only offered lower numbers because he doesn't move the TV ratings. I don't think he is getting paid more than Sage and is probably around $30,000 show money. For a top 5 fighter, that is pretty low.

I think he's making more than that and that WSOF offered him more too. For example, WSOF's bantamweight champion is Marlon Moraes. Moraes is making 70/70k.

Sterling is a free agent and WSOF was eager to bring him in. I doubt they would lowball him with a number lower than 40/40 especially when he is a bigger name than Moraes at this point. Also, Sterling was pretty adamant that he deserved as much if not more than Sage so I dont see him accepting less than 40/40.

Now I'm not saying he is making as much as Moraes but I could see a bump that put him at or over 40/40k.

So those of us on here who said Ronda was mentally weak were right, she thought about killing herself after the loss. Cyborg, Bethe were right also. She really needs to get her mental issues fixed before fighting again. If Holm TKOs her again or even worse Tate beats her, who knows what will happen.

Not much to say other than that calling someone "mentally weak" because they contemplated suicide is offensive and extremely insensitive.

She should retire. Her whole outlook on fighting is forever changed. She was KO'ed on the 1st punch that connected and was just fighting semi there. If a butt kicking and a lost effects you that bad, then this sport is not for you. If I was Dana White I wouldn't clear her to fight ever again.

Calling her mentally weak is the only way to say it. I'm not a doctor so I don't know what her diagnosis would be, other than to say that when she faces adversity in life, she has run away, turned to drugs, and thought about suicide. Add how she acts on top, Cyborg really hit on this that she isn't happy even as champ.

There are issues there and she probably needs some professional help to help her be able to work through failure. Everyone gets hurt by failure, but then you pick yourself back up. She didn't have a good childhood and that probably has lead to the issues.

I hope she is talking with someone because if Holm beats her, she won't be able to right that. She thinks she can right that loss, but if she can't, then what happens? If Tate beats her, the woman who she hates with everything in her, then what does that say about her? Hopefully she is prepared to handle another loss.

This is part of the problem when you surround yourself with people like Edmond "You're Doing Great, Champ!" Tarverdyan. Anybody who truly believes they are unbeatable at anything is set up for a similar fall from grace like Ronda.

I hope she comes to grip with it and comes back grounded and prepared for a technical war

I have to admit that nothing would make me happier than Ronda coming back and getting the belt again. Seems unlikely....but who knows

Nah, this isn't that kind of issue. This is a deep rooted personal problem that she either hasn't dealt with or hasn't been successful dealing with.
