4-man tourney between Rory, Woodley, Lombard and Diaz. Best in show takes the #1 contender. Doubt Diaz agrees though. If Diaz backs out, replace him with Lawler. Hell, a Lawler/Diaz match that everyone keeps asking for would be
Matt Brown could come out of nowhere and get the shot with a win over Silva.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Anderson Silva says he isn't fighting this year. He is eyeing the 1st half of 2015.
UFC president Dana White was confident that Anderson Silva would make his return to the Octagon by the end of 2014, but the former champion isn’t that optimistic.
Slowly returning to training after suffering a gruesome injury against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December, Silva expects to fight again in 2015.
"These rumors that I’ll fight at UFC 181 or any other event around that date aren’t true," Silva told Combate. "This year is over for me. There’s a chance I’ll fight in the first half of 2015."
Whenever he returns to the cage, "The Spider" does not see himself fighting for the middleweight belt again.
"Anderson’s phase as the champion is over," he said. "Fighting for (the title) is a little far away from me."
Silva, who signed a 10-fight deal with the UFC right before suffering a leg injury against Weidman, expects to retire from the sport before his deal is done.
"I don’t see myself stopping (right now), but I don’t know if I will fulfill my 10-fight contract," he said. "My family has been asking me for years to stop fighting, and they need to understand that this is what I love to do and that I need to have my time. My goal in the sport was to become a reference in this sport, and I’m achieving this."Comment

Anderson Silva the gatekeeper? Na man, please just retire then.
Selfishly I would rather just have him retire than ruin my perception of him.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
I hope he retires before then. I don't want to see him go out like Chuck Liddell. That dude didn't know when to quit and was getting KO'ed left and right.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
That could very well happen, however Robbie Lawler today is much better than Robbie Lawler from 10 years ago. Of course, you can say the same thing about Nick Diaz too, but I digress...
My point is they're both top fighters in the division who are coming off loses, so why not let them fight again? I'd certainly pay to see Part 2.
If he comes back at WW I would really only be interested in him fighting for the belt, but I wouldn't mind seeing him fighting at LHW against someone like Rashad or Shogun; then if he wins that give him a title shot. If he loses, then I don't know what to do with him. Like you, I don't want to see him be a gatekeeper, I want to see him fight in meaningful fights for as long as he can.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Yeah, I was sad seeing Liddell going out how he did. People that started watching late into his career will never know how fun that dude was to watch.badComment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
The two things that really got me in the UFC was 1) Chuck Liddell and 2) The Forrest/Bonnar TUF Finale. It's hard to believe that fight was almost 9 years ago.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Same with me. Watching Chuck v. Randy 3 on INHD (One of the few HD channels Comcast had back then) was the fight that made me a hardcore fan.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Granted I didn't see his last fight because I'm on team #boycottFightPass, was it really bad?
Sure is win/loss record isn't great, but he's exciting and always competitive. Plus, I hate to see another Louisiana fighter out of the UFC.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

He looked timid and a little past his prime. Plus he lost 5 of his last 8 with one no contest.Comment
