Well said. Like I said earlier, I enjoyed the first two rounds. But after all that showboating and mocking of his opponent, Silva did nothing to finish him. If you're going to taunt a guy repeatedly, at least show me that you have the ability to end this fight rather than ducking out for the next 3 rounds. At least Maia went on the attack. So what if he wasn't successful, at least he tried to put on a show and make a name for himself. I hardly have any favorites in the UFC really, I just like to watch fights rather than dancing.

I do agree that Silva should have been trying to finish the fight. If that isn't your goal stepping into the octagon then you shouldn't be in there, but so many people are really overreacting to all of this, IMO.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. It's funny how Silva's going on about GSP and fighting Heavyweight, yet he's not putting the effort into finishing his current fights.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

See this is what I don't get. Everyone is loving Maia right now because "he tried to put on a show" but where was that effort in the first 2-3 rounds? Early in the fight he just stood there, threw almost no strikes and laid on his back hoping Silva would jump into his guard when he was on his back.

What I dont get is, who are you/we to say how a fighter should fight? he got to the top being a counter puncher, he should change now b/c you want to see ko's? I think he's smart, he has a fight won, why rush in and risk being caught by a lucky punch or possibly injury? i look at it like running the score up, if you dont like it, stop it. Im sorry, but if im in a fight and a guy is taunting like that and doing what he wants when he wants to me, im gonna say **** it and start swinging for the fences. maia chose to dance with him and get knocked down by flinches and the wind of silvas punches.Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

You need to watch his earlier fights. He attacked in the Leben fight. He attacked in the first two Franklin fights. He attacked in the Lutter fight. He didnt get to the top as a counter puncher. He changed his style once his priority became keeping the belt and not taking risks.

My mistake, you're right about his earlier matches. He had to win those matches. As champion, he just has to not lose. Idc, b/c what he does in his fights dont impact my life or my wallet. If someone lost a bet b/c they predicted a KO, I can understand then, but everyone else with this "outrage" is ridiculous. Bet you guys tune in to Silva's next fight. I'll also say his antics brought the PPV after math more pub than it had, had he woulda knocked him out.Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Re: UFC 112 1PM SPOILERS THREAD
I dont know if I've read or heard anyone say Maia tried to put on a show. Maia didnt attack at all until Round 5. The difference is Maia had a reason for it. He isnt a striker and would have been destroyed if he tried to trade with Silva. Silva had no reason to lay back. He is a much better striker and Maia has no KO power.
I understand Maia didn't have much of a chance standing with Anderson but when he's standing there taunting him, Maia's best attack was raising his hands in the air and doing the same thing. Also, by round 3 Maia should have realized that his weak takedown attempts weren't gonna fly and that he had to adapt to the fight and start throwing.
IMO this fight is just as much Maia's fault as it is Silva's. And if it wasn't for Anderson putting on a show in the first 2 rounds, this probably would have been the worst fight in UFC history.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. I enjoy going to a sports bar and grill watching it for free. Or the price of my burger.

I guess I just disagree and think that fighters should fight to win (not just to avoid losing). I think 99% of the UFC roster would agree with me as well.
It's not just my money (I usually watch at bars as well), but it's my time/enjoyment. I don't want to waste 45ish minutes of my life watching someone dance and "fight not to lose"...it's not enjoyable, I have better things to do with my time.
I don't know about the bar you watched in, but mine was pretty vocal and unhappy with how Silva was fighting. Didn't hear a single guy go "Wow, I love how he's dancing and not engaging, I can't wait to buy the next PPV"Last edited by mgoblue; 04-11-2010, 01:43 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Um, no...Dana White's threatening to put him on the undercard because fans are weary of seeing another "fighting not to lose" effort again....

That's one of my points, who are those fighters to tell the champion how to fight?
As far as the place I watched at, mostly everyone was laughing. Towards the end people were yelling knock it out. Not one person was saying he shouldnt be a main event or stripped of his title.Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

This aftermath is an embarrassment to the UFC. Dana doesnt want this attention. He doesnt want people saying that the guy he has been promoting as the pound for pound best fighter in the world refuses to fight and is an embarrassment. Its silly to say that this bad pub is in some way good for the UFC.
I'm a MMA fan. I watch everything related to the sport so of course I will watch Silva's next fight. Will I pay for it? No. But I will watch. That doesnt even matter though. What matters is that non hardcore MMA fans will be hesitant to purchase a PPV headlined by Silva because of his last 3 main events.Comment

Just like Dana threatened a ban for any fighter being in a different MMA game?

If this was the first instance, I'd cut him some slack (as I did back the first time). But this is the third time.
It's hilarious how people here always whine about lay and pray boring wrestlers, but this is ok? Silva can decide not to compete for 3 rounds and get away with it?
Hell, a lay and pray guy at least tries and takes someone down...Silva did nothing for half the fight...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
