Different situations though. One, Marquardt and Sonnen were suspended by different state bodies. Marquardt was suspended in PA (technically not suspended but held out of the Story fight) and Sonnen was suspended in CA.

Two, Overeem is not currently licensed in NV. You are only obligated to apply for an exemption once youve applied for a license which Overeem planned to do in mid April. He only received a one fight provisional license to fight Lesnar and once that fight was over he was no longer licensed.


Overeem's argument will probably be that he just recently started TRT and planned to file for an exemption but did not expect NV to random drug test him before he filed an application. Who knows if that will work but I find it very strange that Dana is willing to wait until almost a month before the fight to decide whether Overeem is in or out of the fight. I have a feeling he may get off.

part of that provisional license was 2 random post fight drug test. He just failed a random post fight drug test. I just don't see how Overeem gets licensed. I really believe his license will be denied.

Here is the problem with that. He didnt test positive for steroids. He tested with a abnormally high testosterone count which can be explained by TRT. If I'm his lawyer, I have him say "I recently started TRT, I planned to inform NSAC of this treatment once I applied for a license in April, the test did not show I was using steroids...it showed I had a high level of testosterone...which happens when u start TRT.

Do I think Overeem is a drug cheat? Yes, I've thought that for years. The problem is he may have an explanation that while I dont believe it, NSAC may.

He was already in hot water for skipping town before the drug test before the lesnar fight. Thats why his license was only provisional. They don't have to license him and they really don't need a reason to deny him a license. So he is asking for a license and has all these question marks surrounding him. Plus if he's claiming a medical condition and isn't an already licensed fighter, he may be denied the license due to medical reasons, with his defense completely blowing up in his face, and being the reason he gets denied.(I actually hope that happens, enough of this trt) Remember it's not like he's due a day in court to keep them from revoking his license, He is there asking them to grant one. We'll all see when he goes before the commission in the next 2 weeks asking to be licensed. It was the 22nd he's supposed to go before them IIRC, or some where close to that date.

It should be obvious to anyone who looks at Overeem that he clearly needed the TRT. If he doesn't fit the profile than who does?

They dont have to license him but they risk a lawsuit if they dont.. NSAC has allowed several fighters (Henderson, Sonnen and Marquardt among others) fight while using TRT so if they penalize Overeem for the same thing...they could face a contractual interference claim.

The thing is it's tougher to take a license away than it is to never grant one in the 1st place. It will be interesting to see what happens.

what answer would you come up with for the question "why have you started TRT?"

If the answer (while BS) cannot easily be refuted, I'd say that's the key. Like a professional would have to say it was a good idea because ________.

I would say "Overeem recently discovered that he has low testosterone and needs TRT to treat his condition." I'd also have a doctor testify to that. It's the same excuse Chael and Hendo use.
