Dana ruled that one out. He is still fighting Russow in Brazil....if Brazil even happens.

UN has a meeting there on the 20-22.
Guess there would be a lot of problems with that in town too.

NYC has problems with hotel rooms when the UN is in session. Dana was hinting that they were having issues last week in the post fight press conference.

That's a good match up, the best they could have done.

The fact that a lesser known teammate has already made Silva look silly raises the pressure for Cain.

In a statement released from Alistair Overeem via Authentic Sports Management today regarding his removal from the UFC 146 main event and his hearing before the NSAC, Overeem had this to say:

Deerfield Beach, FL - Authentic Sports Management today issued the following statement on behalf of UFC heavyweight athlete Alistair Overeem:

                      "To my friends and fans,

I am deeply saddened to announce that on Friday, April 20, I respectfully withdrew from the May 26 event so that I can request a continuance until my situation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is resolved.

I cannot express how sorry I am to the Commission, Junior Dos Santos, the fans, the owners and employees of the UFC, my friends and family and anyone else who this has affected.

I absolutely do not believe in, nor do I use performance-enhancing drugs. I am a clean fighter and I will do whatever it takes to prove this to everyone.

Prior to the UFC 146 press conference in March, I aggravated an old rib injury on my left side. My doctor prescribed, and I accepted, an anti-inflammatory medication that was mixed with testosterone. I was completely unaware that testosterone was one of the ingredients in the medication. Although I was unaware, I do realize it is my job to know what I am putting into my body.

I respect the Nevada Commissioners and Executive Director Keith Kizer and what they are doing to keep the sport of mixed martial arts regulated and safe for athletes. I look forward to working with them in the days and weeks ahead.

Friends and fans, I ask for your patience as I work through this matter. Please support me. I promise to return to the Octagon soon."
I believe in you, Overeem. If you say you're clean, you're clean. LMAO.

I guess he is still technically clean ... as long as he can show the prescription, there isn't much they can do about it. I wonder if he gets a license and then gets the next title shot or drops back down on the list.

Conspiracy time- He could have done this on purpose since it was a quicker turnaround than he has had in a long time. His SF fights were so few and far between.

Actually he's not even close to being in the clear. NSAC doesnt have to let him withdraw his application. It can rule on his application and deny it. That would essentially suspend him for a yr in the US.

Also the doctor excuse isnt sufficient. Fighters always blame failed test on supplements or prescriptions that they did not know contained banned substances. Thats no excuse. Fighters are responsible for making sure that what they put in their body doesnt contain a banned substance.

It is an excuse that can get them cleared to fight. Supplements would be their own problem, but a prescription is a valid excuse. Now the NSAC doesn't have to believe the BS from the doctor, but if he can show it was medically acceptable (normal) treatment, then he can file for an exemption for it. All he would need to do is file that paper work now and beg for forgiveness by saying he didn't know it was in there.

Its BS, but it most likely will get him out of it. Since he had already applied for the license before getting hurt, he couldn't have applied for the exemption at that time. So he will say he didn't know about it and will file now. As long as he has the paperwork to back him up, legally he should get around it.

Not saying he is clean and most likely his defense won't even say that, its just legally with a doctor prescribing it, they either have to give him a license or stop giving anyone exemptions and start testing like the Olympics.

TRT is a doctor prescribed treatment and Sonnen was still suspended even after showing he had a prescription and having his doctor testify at the hearing. In 06 Bonner got popped for doctor prescribed steroids to heal an injury and got a 6 mos suspension. Bigfoot Silva was suspended a year for doctor prescribed testosterone in 08.

Only difference is they didn't let them know about it to file for an exemption. Overeem had applied for a license, but he still didn't have one, so he has some legal room that the others didn't. He can't file for an exemption if he doesn't have a license to begin with.
