He probably pulled out of the press event because his douche bag **** talking routine doesn't work against a guy he just lost to. It would have been hilariously awkward though.

I am just trying to do my job and fight here.
I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote.
I have become lost in the game of promotion and forgot about the art of fighting.
There comes a time when you need to stop handing out flyers and get back to the damn shop.
50 world tours, 200 press conferences, 1 million interviews, 2 million photo shoots, and at the end of it all I'm left looking down the barrel of a lens, staring defeat in the face, thinking of nothing but my incorrect fight preparation. And the many distractions that led to this.
Nothing else was going through my mind.
It is time to go back and live the life that got me this life.
Sitting in a car on the way to some dump in Conneticut or somewhere, to speak to Tim and Suzie on the nobody gives a **** morning show did not get me this life.
Talking to some lady that deep down doesn't give a **** about what I'm doing, but just wants some sound bites so she can maybe get her little tight *** a nice raise, and I'm cool with that too, I've been giving you all raises. But I need to focus on me now.
I'm coming for my revenge here.
I flew an entire team to Portugal and to Iceland to make my adjustments in preparation and fix my errors I made with the weight and the cardio prep.
With the right adjustments and the right focus, I will finish what I started in that last fight.
I will not do this if I am back on the road handing out flyers again.
I will always play the game and play it better than anybody, but just for this one, where I am coming off a loss, I asked for some leeway where I can just train and focus. I did not shut down all media requests. I simply wanted a slight adjustment.
But it was denied.
There had been 10 million dollars allocated for the promotion of this event is what they told me.
So as a gesture of good will, I went and not only saved that 10 million dollars in promotion money, I then went and tripled it for them.
And all with one tweet.
Keep that 10 mill to promote the other bums that need it. My shows are good.
I must isolate myself now.
I am facing a taller, longer and heavier man. I need to prepare correctly this time.
I can not dance for you this time.
It is time for the other monkeys to dance. I've danced us all the way here.
Nate's little mush head looks good up on that stage these days. Stuff him in front of the camera for it.
He came in with no **** to do that last one. I'd already done press conferences, interviews and shot the ads before RDA pulled out.
Maybe I'll hit Cabo this time and skull some shots pre-fight with no obligation.
I'm doing what I need for me now.
It is time to be selfish with my training again. It is the only way.
I feel the $400million I have generated for the company in my last three events, all inside 8 months, is enough to get me this slight leeway.
I am still ready to go for UFC 200.
I will offer, like I already did, to fly to New York for the big press conference that was scheduled, and then I will go back into training. With no distractions.
If this is not enough or they feel I have not deserved to sit this promotion run out this one time, well then I don't know what to say.

Re: UFC 200
To a certain extent, I kind of agree with him. His media obligations throughout the Aldo-then Chad-then Aldo again time frame was pretty bananas. It sounds like he had hoped to promote more on his time than on the UFCs time for, this fight and didn't like the UFCs response to that.
I know it's part of the job, I'm sure it's in the contract. But, I dunno, I kind of see where he's coming from, even if technically he's wrong

He deserves time to train, but needs to promote as well. The bottom line is fighters can't take off from promoting just because they lost. I don't know what all goes into shooting these promos and how much time it takes to get ready and that since he is so hot right now that (if they can) the UFC should work with him on when to shoot the promos. I assume that the UFC wanted to get the promos ready for 197. I don't know. Either way I don't see this as something that can't work out and I'm glad he's not retiring.... not that I ever really thought he was anyway. My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

He didnt have to do much with Mendes because all the press obligations where done when Mendes was chosen.
Aldo 2: He had to do one press conference before fight week. They used the same commercial for the first scheduled Aldo fight.
Diaz/Dos Anjos: He had to do 2 press conferences before fight week and one of them was in LA where he was training.
This is an example of Conor trying to pull rank. If I'm the UFC, I keep him benched unless he shows up for tomorrow's press conference.Comment

Re: UFC 200
I agree that this is his weakest point. Wish he had left this out and just stuck with "I've done more than anyone the last 12 months, I feel asking for a slight adjustment is fair" angle. The "I'm coming off a loss" angle is a little weak, I admit
I'm not trying to paint him as a sympathetic figure. Dude is getting paid mega money. I kind of see his POV that's all. I know I'm probably in the minority and maybe I'm flat out wrong"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Eh. He was more than happy to do the world tour with Aldo the first time because it was his first headlining PPV.

Re: UFC 200
I agree with him needing to train. He can't continue doing what he has been doing.
He also isn't getting paid what he thinks he should for the promotion stuff.
I think it will be fine after some money gets paid or Conor gets some time off to train.Comment

Re: UFC 200
He did? He got paid for TUF so that doesnt count. From Mendes to Diaz, every other interview he's done has been via satellite or at his gym. I think he went to ESPN in Bristol once but that was for the Siver fight and he hasnt been back since.
****, the UFC is asking for 4 days tops. 2 for travel, 1 for the press conference and 1 for the commercial. Maybe 1 more if they do a NY press conference in May. Conor hasnt done radio interviews in the last two fights. He's at the same level as Ronda when it comes to that. Ronda does the main press conference, a press day at her gym, commercial day and thats it until fight week. Same with Conor now.
They dont need him to do local interviews or radio spots anymore. But they need him to do a commercial and they need him to do the big press conference. He's the biggest star in MMA and with that comes responsibilities. Mayweather is a dick but he did press conferences every time. Same with Pac. Same with GSP. Lesnar. Ronda. They all do.Comment
