    Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

One Night Only 1997......the event itself really seemed like a much bigger PPV than it was. Too bad it had like no build for it. Really, going back through PPVs in 97, the build for their feuds/lack of real promo videos for matches really makes todays WWE look real good. Seemed like half the matches for ONO97 weren't even advertised before hand. I believe this was also Brets final title defense before Survivor Series 97.....

lol, WWE messing with the UK fans. No member of Hart Foundation had their match end cleanly. 2 of which were losses. I was surprised that almost half the people in England were booing Bret though, seeing how he was in the middle of the whole USA vs Canada thing and basically grouped all other parts of the world in with Canada(so he was only supposed to be billed a villain in USA). Not to mention being aligned with Bulldog. Though fans loved Owen(and obviously Bulldog).

Then again...maybe it was an edited reaction? Cause throughout the entire event, all I heard were the worst edited reactions ever(which make the SD piped in reactions of today sound half decent). You could literally hear the exact moment the edited reaction begins and ends.

If you watched it on the Network, it's an abbreviated version, not the entire PPV.

It is going to last. The reason they took the commitment away is so they can rope in anyone who didn't wanna order because of the commitment. And they hope many of them will keep it after they try the one month.

They need to start adding content that aren't WCW or WWE.

                  Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

How long do the subscriber numbers need to be terrible before they start to understand that its not the price, or the commitment thats keeping people away, its the product.

I'm sure the backlog of shows is a big selling point for some people, but I have to think the major reason most people would subscribe is the cheap PPV's, and they're absolutely not delivering in that regard. The only thing thats going to make subscriber numbers climb at a noticeable rate is a major improvement to the show, and it seems like they're not committed to doing that.

The fact that they rolled the network out worldwide and basically made no gains should be setting off alarms within WWE.

The worst part for the WWE now is for just $30 and no commitment every year, you can get the three shows that usually deliver, Summerslam, Royal Rumble, and Wrestlemania. Thats WAY less than they used to make for the same product.

Well, you can't have someone win the championship and then don't make an appearance until sometime in damn December. That alone makes the $9.99 a waste of time.

                      Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

I think it'll last but they need to do better with the current product (the PPVs) and have a little more variety with the actual archival programming. There needs to be less of a focus on WWE and WCW in the way we think of it (1990s and on) and REALLY open up the vaults. Let's get unedited house show broadcasts from the '80s, Prime Time Wrestling, weekly shows from the territory days (JCP, WCCW, AWA, WWF, Mid South etc etc) and heck, why not show something from the '60s once in a blue moon. Sure that old of material might not get many eyeballs but who knows, Once every 3 months with that kind of material might be interesting.

I read a blurb somewhere that says Vince is pretty much the head programming guy for the network as he has final say on what's shown. I wonder if maybe some of his biases are playing a part here.

I sure as hell hope this network survives because WWE has a treasure trove in their vaults and it would seem like such a waste to keep it locked up from the fans.

Yup. If they put up all the Raws/Smackdowns (I don't even need the WCW stuff) from the AE, I'd re subscribe.

i agree they need to dive into the vault especially the late 70s and the 80s when wrestling began to truly blossom into the main stream

Its all bad creative. They should be using this time to elevate the IC title back to where it used to be, then there wouldn't be this massive void left by the WWE title being off TV.

Why not do something insane like have Cena win the IC title? That immediately makes it much more important. Thats just off the top of my head.

Why didn't I think of this?

Seriously, the IC title hasn't been a thing in YEARS. If they're going to go ahead with feeding Cena to Lesnar than maybe they can have him lose in a somewhat questionable fashion, have him on RAW the next night and put him off TV for a month. Cena then comes back and declares that he's going after the IC title and he has a feud Ziggler (or whoever has it) and once he wins it all he goes on TV the next night and does a "respect the past" spiel and solidifies himself as a true heir to the legends who've held the title.

In fact, I'd let Cena hold the belt for an entire year just to keep that title elevated and if Lesnar is still the top guy at least it will keep Cena on top of the card with other guys chasing after the IC belt.
