    Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

I kind of saw this coming. Even the official financial info that has been released the past few years has shown that the Network isn't making much money, and it's more problematic when you look at the subscriber count. Doing things like Foley's reality show, Edge & Christian, Ride Along etc, cost a lot.

Just make the PPVs special/better and you'll get more subscribers + you won't need as much extra stuff.

Makes you wonder how much longer 205 live will be around. They're in a tough position when it comes to WWE programming. They're clearly over-exposed, but they don't want to cut back on anything that generates revenue, like the 3rd hour of Raw. In a perfect world Raw and Smackdown would be 2 hours each and there would be one joint ppv each month with WWE, IC, US, Women's, and Tag Team titles floating between shows. Then you don't need to use all your big names every month and things will feel a little fresher

It's so weird to say, especially as the CM Punk mark I am, but Triple H is the best wrestling mind in the business right now.

Everything he oversees is brilliant. NXT, CC, UK tournament, almost every Takeover has been fantastic for two years and even the few "bad" ones are better than pretty much anything Vince and Dunn oversee.

I do like a lot of UK wrestling, Ring of Honor, and NJPW can be utterly mesmerising to me, but Haitch is just consistently the best wrestling creator on the planet.

There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

The only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction needs to be credible.

I've been neglecting the Network for the longest time on my watch through of RAW but I binge watched a month's worth of 1994 on the march to SummerSlam. Anywho I wanted to mention a FANTASTIC match between Bret Hart and 1-2-3 Kid. Sean Waltman can be a bit lazy in the ring especially when he's not with his kliq buddies but I thought this match was DAMN good. Lots of good storytelling and I loved how Bret initially got the win but demanded that they restart. It took up a huge chunk of Raw that week and for good reason, they were allowed to tell a story and show their skills.

Anywho, I have a week off from babysitting and the like so I hope to at least get through another couple of months of '94 programming. (though I hear another Hidden Gems drop is on the way so I will divert over to watch that)

That’s kid’s best match in his entire career.

I did it. Nostalgia is a friend of mine.

I’m up to two weeks after WM12. I also picked up WCW once Nitro started. They had even worse stuff.

Basically watching the evolution of the modern product. Once Nitro starts up I will watch that as well. There are some little hidden gems amongst the garbage. I actually like how they advanced storylines too. It's all very A to B to C type booking but it was done in a consistent way.

I also really enjoy Macho Man on commentary. He isn't very good but he says some truly off the wall stuff. Whenever he's with Vince I get the feeling that those two really liked each other a lot. Whatever Savage did to make him persona non grata with Vince must've been truly terrible (Maybe it explains the having sex with Steph rumor) because I really think those two would've buried the hatchet long ago if it was just business.

The early Nitro stuff is terrible but it’s worth it. The Nacho Man/Huckster is hilarious if you’re watching side by side and you’ll see what I mean when you get there.

1st and only match they had, I believe.

I remember the Nacho Man/Huckster stuff very well. I wish the Network would include pre shows for their old school PPVs because I seem to recall one PPV preshow had Nacho Man and the Huckster "wrestle" each other.

                              Yeah that was WM12

I had remembered the skits but until I went back and watched side by side the jokes really began to resonate.

Don't have the link in front of me, but What Culture had a good video talking about what's wrong with the WWE Network. They bring up a lot of valid points, but the one I see as being one of the bigger issues is a lack of consistency with how the Network is programmed/scheduled.
