That's what I'm saying. You can say it was the start of their feud over the WWE title but they had history before that.

Shawn had been making random appearances on commentary over the course of that summer after not being seen since losing to Austin at Wrestlemania. I think he addressed whether or not he’d be getting back in the ring when he came to the announce table during one of those appearances but he never flat out said he was retired if I’m remembering correctly. So it’s mostly from that, because WWE was pretty good about keeping his commissioner role under wraps. I used to hit the dirt sheets on the school computers back in the day and I don’t remember seeing anything about him coming back for that role before it happened on air. There wasn’t even speculation that they were getting a new commissioner because everybody knew Slaughter was the commish at the time and he was showing up damn near every week with Vince and the Stooges so him being replaced by Shawn came out of nowhere. So yeah, it was just wishful thinking by fans who’d recently seen HBK back on tv that he’d be turning up back in the ring again.

Man, this took me back. Used to do the same thing. It was mind-blowing to find sites/forums dedicated to professional wrestling back then. True story is that I produced a professional wrestling-themed talk show at my college during the AE. We were way ahead of 'Bring It To The Table' and 'First Take', haha.

The WrestleMania Theater collection is better than I expected. Thought it would just be the same matches with a couple new angles, but the two I watched were entirely (or 99%) alternate camera angles. They even cut out a lot of commentary, just leaving in the stuff most relevant to the moment.

I don't know how much of this type of footage they'd have the further they go back in the archives but it'd be really cool to see them do these for some Attitude Era and earlier matches. Not even just Mania matches.

Started watching Thunder the other night. I don't know who was in charge of putting that show together, but the first 10 min. was the announcers chatting with each other and cueing up highlights from PPVs and Nitro. I about fell asleep before the first match started.

That happens on a lot of WCW shows, for whatever reason.

I either didn't notice or didn't care when I was younger, but going back to watch some of these on the Network now and it's like...who wants to start a show with 10 minutes of Tony Schiavone? Get to the action already.

I'm impressed, based on the link above I assumed the episodes they uploaded were going to be skipping all over the place but they've uploaded them all from the first episode up through the beginning of 93 without skipping any episodes

So many themes around this time were so good, but corporate ministry is addicting to listen too

On that note, some closer in mlb needs to come out to McMahons theme. Imagine "no chance!" blasting through the stadium in the top of the 9th.

So I heard Bischoff say that he paid $100k for the rights to use Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child. That sounds like a damn bargain to me.

That’s 1997 money though. If it’s still that price of the 2018 equivalent and Vince STILL won’t pay it, then he needs to step it up and cut that check.

It's probably 5x that to put it on the network.

Oh for sure, Bischoff said to get that same deal now it would be like $4M. It was a good deal even for that time. WWE paying for those songs wouldn't be good financially considering how little they make on the Network. Sad as it is.

I'm not gonna lie, I actually dig the Voodoo Child knockoff the Network came up with FWIW. Obviously I'd prefer the original but IMO it gets the job done better than dubbing over w/ the nWo song. I wish they'd go back through the WCW stuff and put the Voodoo Child knockoff on in place of the nWo dub because then at least the air guitar won't look as stupid as it does during the nWo dub.
