Yeah, the over saturation of the WWE product really goes against the shortening attention spans and increased (and specialized) entertainment options people have these days. 3+ hours of Raw and then 2 hours of Smackdown the next day is too much.

They better make the shows COMPLETELY different, otherwise it's just too much. I mean, it needs to be the equivalent of watching WWF and then WCW back in the day And don't be showing me Raw recaps on Smackdown, damnit.

When the Monday Night Wars were at their peak, before Smackdown and Thunder, you only had to tune in one night per week plus PPVs. It's a lot easier to follow two shows when Monday is the only night you have to dedicate to the product other than PPVs. They've got their work cut out for them if they're going to make this work with the rumored two ppvs per month. One thing they have going for them is the network makes their PPVs much more accessible.

Yeah, plus Raw and Nitro were competing, so they were trying different things. WWE doesn't want that. They want everyone to watch both shows. 5 hours of similar programming, with all those commercials, is too much.

In the OT thread people were already talking about WWEs overkill on this stuff, I think 2 PPVs a month would more than do that. 5+ hours of WWE stuff a week is way too much(even if we can DVR/skip whatever we want). I don't care how entertaining a show may or may not be, 5 hours of it a week is beyond overkill.

I've said it in the past and I'll say it again, WWE shows are turning into MLB game level of importance. Is there really major importance in MLB game #55 in a season? Or Game #91? Game #106? That's what WWE feels like now. You miss a few weeks worth of things, and you really don't miss much at all.

So many hours of stuff a week that isn't needed at all. 2HR Raw and 2HR Smackdown is all they need with 1 PPV a month. Can't imagine what the 5 hours of programming on a brand extension, combined with multiple 3 hour PPVs a month would do to the already declined quality.

If you only watch wrestling to see "important stuff" then you're missing the point. Just like game #55 in a baseball season, people don't watch because it's important. People watch because they enjoy watching it.

Also I think people forget, even if the ratings are low in relation to what they used to get. They're still very very high for a weekly show that never takes a break. The network probably loves them.

Have they announced when the draft will be? With Smackdown going live the 19th and a ppv the following Sunday, I'd have to imagine they do something like have the draft on Raw the 18th but it won't take effect until the following Monday or maybe make the draft a two day event the 18th and 19th

But that's what made it so popular for so long. Storylines, character development, reasons to not miss last week's show because of cliffhangers and continuity playing an important role in the shows.

Haven't announced anything, but definitely come tomorrow, they'll start going into Summer mode so we could get more info on it.

I'm still going with my theory of Battleground settling the control issue. So the SD before ppv, its the real go home show, setting up the ppv. Once BG happens, we know who is running each show, so the Raw and SD following the ppv, is the WWE draft. After that, brand split is on.

Therefore it makes first 2 SDs even more important since they directly tie in with Raw and have big implications.

Yeah, it's going to be July 11th, Monday Night Raw from Detroit.

Has that date been confirmed or something?

And I managed to find videos of the 2002 draft! Don't know if it's on the network or not since Canada is only country who doesn't get the big video library that rest of the world gets, cause Canadian providers are horrible. But if anyone wants to watch the first draft, simply search "2002 wwe draft pick" on google videos(5th result is a playlist with 90% of show, only thing missing is the #1 pick, which you can find on youtube)

Well, it was being advertised locally. But now WWE just confirmed its during the first live smackdown on July 19th.

Confirmed for the July 19th Smackdown. So I really wonder what Battleground will be about then? Cause now they'd just have 4 weeks of RAW/SD to figure out who the SD GM will be. I thought they'd at least do a match at Battleground where winner is GM of Smackdown.

I would keep it to a one brand only ppv each month. The big 4 would be for both.

                            I'm the other way.

Go with 2 PPVs per month, since we have the Network and don't need to pay more.

The big 4 can have one per month as a crossover (or at least multi branded) event.

Or (preferably but let's not pretend that they'd ever do this) would be 6ish week cycles per show. So 1 ppv every 3 weeks between the shows, but a month and a half per show. Gives them more time to flesh out the stories they don't tell.

I could see it being the end of a lot of feuds type PPV.

Man, WWE is treating this like it's the NFL draft. On July 19th they'll have a Smackdown preshow then during SD they'll have a second screen WWE Network draft show running simultaneously and capping off with a post show.

Kudos to WWE for milking the draft for all it's worth. Now let's hope there's follow through with it that keeps people engaged.
