    Re: AEW Off-Topic

The outrage over the promo is hilarious like that **** hasn't been going on since well before any of us were even alive.

You gotta remember Tony is only 38, was born into a billionaire family and was a mark growing up just like everyone on here. Only difference is he actually has the money to live-out his wildest booking dreams and I'm sure if any of us were in his position we would do stuff like this too at least once.

This doesn't make it any less dumb as ****.

I expect someone to not be a juvenile mark when they're in charge of a company.

Or get someone to be his "proxy" and cut the promos with actual animosity, arrogance, etc.

Kind of how Eric Bicshoff was more or less a proxy for Ted Turner (who never cut such embarrassingly bad promos) in the 90's.

This just comes off as some dorky, try hard ****.

So basically everyone Orton went after (on screen) has now gone to AEW? Big Show, Henry, Christian.

                  I did not.

And it’s going exactly like you’d figure a company run by wrestlers who spent far too much time complaining about how the Man doesn’t understand wrestling when he’s reality understanding business is how these guys got paid a lot of money for a long time. The guys who were wrestler’s wrestlers all got put out of business and the guy’s after them went on to make hundreds of thousands per year when the real wrestlers were paying their guys a couple hundred a month if they were lucky.

You cater to the lowest common denominator and this is what you get. The same people who **** on Mark Henry for sucking in WWE will tout him signing as an announcer in AEW as a sign that Vince is out of touch. Just watch. It’s like clockwork. Lol

It was a battle royal surprise, not a "big mystery guy". Bringing in dudes for one-off appearances fits in that scenario.

I don't think anyone on the planet is excited about the idea of Paul Wight wrestling a match lol.

People are excited that these guys are coming in because we've seen them interviewed outside the WWE bubble and know how entertaining and smart they are. They have personality that we rarely got see. And Henry and Show are old enough that we still remember them being entertaining on WWE programming.

It's not about wanting Paul Wight vs Wardlow, or Mark Henry vs Brian Cage or anything like that.

Those guys behind the scenes could help a lot in coaching/mentoring talent.

It's like if you see a former NBA talent brought in as an assistant coach or GM or something.

So it's excitement to...spite WWE? Which if it is, cool. No need to dress it up as anything else - own it for what it is. lol

This is the best answer. Their knowledge is going to help a bunch of people.

I wouldn't mind one more run for Mark Henry if he's got it in him, but that's a different topic.

After what we saw with Mark Henry earlier this year on Raw, I don't think he's able to wrestle again. Looked like knee surgery or something.

The most I'd want to see out of either guy in the ring is just some quick nostalgia moment during a segment, but that's it, no matches.

But I guess they can't use his Three 6 Mafia theme?

But I wonder if there's anyone else within WWE that they've been scouting for a backstage role. I know guys like Steamboat are just ambassadors, and Borash has some backstage role, I could see AEW being interested in those guys.
