    Re: AEW Off-Topic

Could be a work, I guess. I could see him being so old-school that he thinks he would need to drop his executive title to really be able to turn heel.

Going to WWE seems insane. Unless he's going to have a role in creative. But he'd still be banging his head against a wall. He was the guy among the initial AEW crew who was the most anti-WWE, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. They could pay him a lot of money and guarantee him a title run, but who gives a **** about WWE title runs, honestly.

Well technically this means he could challenge for the AEW World Title since he can't do it if under contract. I don't know where they are going with this if this is a storyline but I imagine they are trying their hand at a shoot storyline.

Not sure if it's brilliant or just a desperate attempt to increase ratings, though, if it ends up being a work. [emoji848]

But if it's a work why didn't they keep the strap on Cody and create the illusion that he could show up on RAW/Smackdown with the TNT title?

I feel like if they kept the title on him, that would instantly prove he is under a deal. Like when Punk won at MITB, you knew he was still under contract when he won the title.

And let's say he does go to WWE. What will happen? They put him back in the Stardust gimmick? Just use one of his old Cody Rhodes gimmicks? And given how the biggest thing about him going to WWE will be his AEW history, and WWE 99.9% won't even mention that at all, will there even be any sort of point of having him back? Itll be like when they brought in the TNA guys (not including AJ). It'll just be like "he spent years honing his craft all around the world"

Forget about my original reponse to Dubcity's post. Obviously, some people and talent definitely still care about a WWE title run even if the Universal title and Roman are the biggest priorities.

It helped make Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre a bigger deal on the show (RAW), but didn't do the same for Big E. That'll always be an issue with modern programming and having two world titles.

True, but it also would've made the idea of him going to "rival" programming a much, much bigger deal. The chance of him pulling an/a "Alundra Blayze/Madusa" is a bigger deal than trying to pull on the heartstrings of fans so they can cheer for Cody, again.

Or whatever this possible angles purpose could really be....

I get why people like some companies mentioning talents past or runs elsewhere, but does it really matter? Did you need Steve Austin, Mankind, Undertaker, Razor Ramon, Diesel or a plethora of past talent to mention their time in WCW, AWA or anywhere else?

They can definitely allude to his recent past without making it a huge point like AEW does. I'd actually prefer that because constantly mentioning the talents' past does little for me or the talent in the long run, IMO.

I hope he's not really leaving. He's a big part of AEW to me, and I always enjoy his segments.

If it's true that Cody is leaving, that's huge. But it's also ironic considering all the shots he took at WWE during his AEW run, whether it be in entrances or in promos and then for him to go back? I guess AEW isnt the golden goose everyone makes it out to be.

Cody has seemingly worked himself into a shoot.

But the more important part is…who has dibs now on the middle entrance?

Money talks and Khan doesn't just have an open checkbook after all.

Weird (if true and happens) that he'd spend on Danielson and Punk, but not one of the true "pillars" of his upstart company.

Apparently, it came down to money. He was wanting Mox/Punk/Danielson money (rumored to be in the $4-$6M range).

I really don't think this is a work. Is Cody so important to AEW and the industry that he and his wife would be in an incredibly elaborate scheme concocted by he and TK just for a big return in a ladder match?

The fans in AEW were sick of his schtick anyway.

I like Cody, he is very talented. But controversy seems to follow him, and I think he sometimes brings it on himself.

And I also saw that it came down to money. I mean, can you blame him for leaving if they didn't want to pay him the same as the other "pillars." That's kind of slap in the face for what he helped create there. So him going back to WWE is not as far fetched as some may think.

I’m just enjoying the Twitter verse. AEW stans trying to act like Cody didn’t do a single good thing for the company. WWE Stan’s trying to act like they loved everything Cody did when he was there.

                                It’s entertaining.
