I think that's partly why WWE turned Becky Lynch how they did - in hindsight that was an even bigger mistake than first thought, IMO - or why they turned D.B. into the "planet's champion" when they did. (Sorry, for injecting WWE into the conversation so much....[emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]).

I do hope that make that shift eventually cause I've always, except for a few exceptions, found Cody way more interesting & entertaining as a heel.

Me personally, I enjoyed his character pre-AEW in ROH and NJPW. He was The American Nightmare…he came from wrestling royalty, but was the exact opposite of his father.

And because he was from the big bad WWE…it worked wonders for him.

      Cody however is still Cody.

Now me personally, I have zero issues with Cody, but he’s clearly garnering a reaction that’s opposite of how it’s supposed to be.

But I guess any reaction is better than stone cold silence.

Cool, I never followed their ROH, NJPW or BTE stuff super closely except for matches here & there.

I do get what you mean and totally agree that the reaction is opposite of what they want.

Yeah, I saw a few of those matches and him + Brandi are just made to be a heel duo. He really found himself and his character while in the indy circuit, ROH, Impact & New Japan.

I guess they didn't want to present the EVP's as heels initially, so they decided to present Cody more as how face is presented in the "other company." Maybe not in the beginning but definitely as time has progressed.

I guess with the other EVP's shifting and changing as time has progressed it makes Cody come across as stale, "playing it safe" & being too stubborn to change.

Hook is such a meme right now, but he's got some rare intensity and the crowd is into it, so can't complain.

Also, Sammy Guevara continues to be that guy that when people think of him in general he gets that "he's pretty good, he's ok" vibe, but than you watch him wrestle and he's doing crazy **** that makes his matches amazing. Continually slept on.

To me the heat on Cody is that it feels like he was the original AEW guy trying to push for wrestling that's different than WWE, but now he's the reality show guy who comes across more like a sports entertainer than a pro wrestler. He was the guy telling the Bucks and Kenny behind the scenes not to go to WWE because it's so horrible there. He thinks he's old school, but he's the guy who had a gender reveal for his kid on Dynamite lol. This has been building for a while.

I’d say Cody started his rapid descent down the mountain when he got the neck tattoo. Also every single time Brandy appears for even a fraction of a second it doesn’t help him either.

Maybe it’s because I had extremely low expectations, but this street fight isn’t that bad.

I had never seen someone wrap barbed wire around their arm and lock someone in a sleeper.

Yeah I was dead wrong about it. The Bunny took some brutal bumps, and overall it was highly watchable. Doesn't mean I suddenly want to see a 30 minute Anna Jay vs Penolope Ford match, but they all delivered.

Jake Atlas looked good…and then he probably blew his knee out with that awkward landing.

Edit: apparently Cody tested positive for Covid. So it’s Dustin vs Sammy for the Interim TNT championship.

Edit 2: The FTW title has been added to the Battle of the Belts card…Ricky Starks vs Matt Sydal

He can't definitely go. He was one of those guys doing really well on the indies in 2019, and unfortunately he went to NXT.

Do they do crowd sweetening for Rampage? Say it ain't so, TK. Hopefully I'm wrong.

You could tell they tried to just end the match with the Panama sunrise, Atlas couldn't do it, so Cole called an audible and did a real soft ankle lock but managed to get them to finish that match.

Such a terrible finish and I blame the lack of psychology of these new school workers…The fact that a pin wasn’t attempted after a super kick after an opponent got caught from a springboard is why I rarely even watch these days. Which lead to a terrible looking finish on a debut. Atlas looked weak tapping out on a basic knees lock. Silver lining here is that he’ll be out for a while and people will forget this.

Rampage was good tonight. Tag team match was exciting. The opener between Cole and Baretta was very solid. Ever since Trent returned, he seems more intense in the ring.

Only misstep was having Shawn Spears squash a jobber….Spears is a veteran. Have him beat someone a little more established before he gets fed to Punk.
