Punk sucks, but that was a cool pop. That tag match was also pretty awesome. Jurassic Express might be my favorite team behind the Usos. And props for having Jungle Boy need to get saved after that sorta Canadian Destroyer. I thought they were gonna go full AEW and have him kick out after 1. The rest of the show I thought was average at best. Was nice they ran a mid WWF Superstars quality match as the main event.
Is the entrance music always so tinny and quiet or was was that just last night?

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
To say he has “nothing to rebel against” is to not understand his character. He has plenty of real life stuff he can draw on, and when that’s over, he’ll make up a reason. AEW is not without many many flaws. Months down the road when he’s done scathing his former company, hopefully he goes after some of AEW’s choices.
I'll leave it at this - obviously people expect him to talk about WWE, but I'm hoping what he said last night was acknowledging that while also just pushing it to the side. I'd rather see him get involved with new stuff than rehash old stuff.
That being said, I still don't get Darby Allin at all so I'm waiting for Punk to get on to even newer new stuff.
Both? AEW's audio mixing for TV is really inconsistent but I think last night they were intentionally turning it down to let the crowd pops come through.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Kind of amazing how just going away from the wrestling business has made him a much bigger deal than he ever was in WWE or anywhere elseComment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Entrances and Punks promo felt like they just used the live audio rather than audio from the truck so that you could really hear the crowd.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
AEW definutely needs to do better with their audio mixing. They actually have some quality themes and it's such a underrated part of building characters in wrestling.. but they're so understated on TV..
Rampage was amazing though

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Yeah they need to not do that. It undervalues the themes and that’s a big mistake.

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
I’ve never seen anything like it in wrestling. I think the closest comparison I can make to his arch is Dave Chappelle’s. Both sort of made a name for themselves in the indies and hit big on something that catapulted them to the mainstream (The Pipebomb was essentially Punk’s Clayton Bigsby moment). They both caught lightning in a bottle but ultimately walked away before their full potential could be reached. Both refused to get swallowed up by the machine and decided leaving at their peaks was better than continuing to suffer. Both came back after insanely long hiatuses with a very high stock and seem to be afforded a seemingly unlimited amount of creative freedom, tons of money, and peace of mind. Now obviously the comparison isn’t apples to apples… I think Dave is the GOAT while Punk isn’t even top 5. That said, the Chappelle comparison seems closer than any wrestling example I can think of.Comment

Re: AEW Rampage Thread
Yeah, I'd count Lesnar, but in a different way. He became more famous for what he did while he was gone. Punk (and in this example, Chappelle) became more famous for how he stepped away.Comment

Never thought I would hear Jim Cornette be so positive about AEW.
In regards to Punk’s return….”It’s not what I would’ve done. But it was better. It was perfect.”
